For those who can't see the embedded tweet, it says: "1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one. The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friend, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality." refugeepea Really Red

Can you write what it says (I'm assuming it's a tweet)? I can't see them on this board for some reason.

That's so sad. She was so cute last year when she was cheering for her son who was playing for Northwestern in the NCAA basketball tournament.
1 in 8 women. That is shocking!

How wonderful that she both has a supportive, capable and caring group around her, and also that she uses her fame to remind us that not all those who are diagnosed do.

1 in 8 women. That is shocking! That number is over a life time. I like that she used her post to point out that not all are so lucky to have great insurance, the ability to pay their own portion and a tribe to assist. Kudos.

My heart goes out to her. Keeping fingers crossed that she caught it early & will have a short battle with it.
Last month I found out I was the 1 in 8. Yesterday I got the news that it was just contained to the lump, no spread to lymph nodes. I hope she gets a similar result

tanya2, I'm sorry that you have bc, but I'm glad that it was contained to one lump. My prayers are w/you that you will never have to deal w/this monster, again and that one lumpectomy will take care of it for good. Very sad to hear about JLD.

I was so dismayed to hear this...she has brought me more laughter than just about any other actress/comedienne. She has such a great talent. I wish her laughter and hope as she goes through her battle. tanya2 I am SO glad your news was good.

Feel free to PM if you need someone to talk to. I was diagnosed a year ago. It's so much to take in at first. Great news that it hasn't spread!!

I wish her well. I hope they caught it early. tanya2 I’m glad you had negative nodes! I had a lumpectomy with positive nodes in 2013. Were so fortunate to have great medical care available. Will you have radiation?

Coming from someone who works in this business...breast imaging, I am very aware of this statistic. A few years ago I was with a bunch of my friends from high school. We are all in our tender, youthful 40's now. There were 8 of us. I remember looking around the table and thinking, "One of us most likely will get breast cancer." That though made it so personal and sobering for me. Ladies, please check for lumps and get your mammograms. Best wishes to Julia LD. When caught early, prognosis is usually great.
