Hey. Does anybody have any experience with this? I got a positive ANa blood test and my doc said the count was high. What specifically are you wanting to know that the doc didn't cover? ANA tests for antibodies in your system. A high count signals you are having an autoimmune response that is causing your body to attack its self. It doesn't pin point a specific disease but does indicate you might have something in the autoimmune disorders... like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis depending on your other symptoms.

What it should mean is that now you see a rheumatologist to verify what/if autoimmune issue you are dealing with.

It's time for a rheumatologist and a full workup to check for autoimmune diseases. You haven't been diagnosed, yet. A rheumatologist will be able to give you some clear answers. It can take a while to get an autoimmune diagnosis, so patience is going to be helpful.

Do you have Raynaud's? My mother has that and always tests positive for ANA, but has no other auto-immune issues. She sees a Rheumatologist every 6 months and they check on her, but nothing else is going on.

I have an appt on the 9th of October with a rheumatologist. My mom has lupus. I guess I’m reading that a positive ANA count doesn’t always mean an autoimmune disease.

I have an appt on the 9th of October with a rheumatologist. My mom has lupus. I guess I’m reading that a positive ANA count doesn’t always mean an autoimmune disease. When mine first became high they did follow-up tests for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus, both were negative. It's been over two years and no change in the symptom that initiated the test, or anything else. RefuPea physician melissa used a term like Incidentilitis once on a thread, when odd test numbers or conditions are found while researching something else. I try and hold onto that thought since mine hasn't been linked to anything yet. I hope yours is negative too, and if not, I hope they find answers quickly!

I sort of hope it’s nothing. But I have had some symptoms and it would be nice to know why. I mean I don’t want something wrong with me, but sometimes it’s easier to have a reason than just have stuff going on for seemingly no reason at all.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjogrens Syndrome, Raynauds Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, so my ANA is always elevated.
With a family history of Lupus, I'm glad you're getting follow up care with a Rheumatologist. My best advice is something my Grandma used to tell me, don't borrow trouble! Hopefully you'll have answers soon, but do be aware as others have already said, it can take a little while to sort everything out. So many conditions have symptoms that overlap, patient may be your best friend in the process.

Why was it done in the first place? It's not routine and has little meaning by itself.

I have had some symptoms....stuff that my doctor and I thought was my hormones, but that blood test came back all normal. Thyroid normal. So she sent me back to bloodwork, looking at my history and with my mom having lupus she said she wanted to do the ANA panel. She also ran my iron and b12. My ANA came back positive, and she said it was high. So she referred me to a rheumatologist to figure out if my symptoms have anything to do with autoimmune.
