There is going to be a cake auction after the luncheon and I need a recipe that will look pretty but won't take for ever to make lol. I have limited time but I want to make something that will look nice. I have several cake recipes that I've made before but none of them are standing out to me. Any tried and true recipes you could share with me?

Pineapple upside down cake. Really easy & so pretty with the cherries in the centre of the pineapple.

You might try this Mocha Cream Torte. I don't have my original Pillsbury cookbook recipe with me right now, but this looks like it. It's delicious, easy and a little different. The layers make for a pretty presentation. To make it a little fancier, you could paint melted chocolate onto leaves, peel after the chocolate sets, and use that for a pretty fall decoration. I haven't made this in a while, but it used to be my go-to holiday cake.

(my daughter is allergic and none of us are crazy about nuts in baked goods)

The nuts are part of the crust in the mocha tart. You could replace them with an equal amount of graham cracker crumbs. I have also used toffee or health bar chips to replace nuts in a recipe.

You could replace them with an equal amount of graham cracker crumbs. I have also used toffee or health bar chips to replace nuts in a recipe. That looks like a good solution. All Recipes Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake Mic Drop I will check this out!

They are part of the crunchy graham cracker layer that the cake layers bake on top of, probably for texture more than taste.

How about a round good vanilla cake with coconut frosting. That is easy and impressive.

Google naked cake. They are super easy to make but oh, so impressive!!! It's just layers of cake sandwiched with filling and fruit and topped with fruit.

I used to always make an applesauce cake that people claimed they loved and I did get asked for the recipe quite a bit. I am pretty sure you can find it on Pinterest. I make it as a bundt cake and sprinkle powdered sugar on it. It is a pretty cake and pretty easy, too.

I make a pina colada cake that is extremely easy and looks nice.
Drain a large can of crushed pineapple, saving the juice.
Bake your favorite boxed yellow cake mix according to the directions, but use the pineapple juice instead of water.
Bake in a 9x13 pan (use a disposable pan if you don't want to worry about getting it back).
When it comes out of the oven let cool for 5 minutes or so then take a skewer or straw to poke holes throughout the cake.
Mix the drained crushed pineapple with a can of coconut cream and pour over the warm cake. (You can add a dash of rum extract or even some chopped walnuts if desired.)
Cool cake completely and then spread top with whipped topping and a good layer of shredded coconut.
It's a great cake to take to potlucks or parties. Tastes like you spent a great deal of time, but so easy and it is very (I know so many peas love this word) moist.
Edited to add: if anyone might be bothered/offended to the alcohol reference in the name, just call it something like Tropical or Hawaiian Delight.

Key lime cake Decorate with lime zest and sliced lime twists. This recipe calls for a 9x13 pan but you could easily make it in 8" rounds and layer it with the frosting in between layers. Another idea is to make a simple white or yellow cake, round layered, frost with white frosting and cover the whole thing with colored sprinkles/jimmies. So pretty and colorful and simple. I also love the idea of a naked cake. I've seen them as wedding cakes and they are just gorgeous.

I like doing a Sock it to Me cake when I want to impress someone. It's a vanilla bundt cake with a streusel tunnel in the middle and a vanilla glaze. it's lovely and stands out in a cake crowd.
