It's 11am in most of western Europe. It is only 10am in the UK.

Get some food and then get out into the sunlight. Try to keep going as long as you can during the day today and don't nap. Aim to make yourself tired by bedtime, even if it is an earlier than normal bedtime. It really is the best was to adapt to the change in timezones.

I just ate lunch. I had a sandwich on this crusty, seedy bread with this cheese that was beyond amazing. Loved it. Nothing sweet. Just so delicious.
I speak Spanish but they speak so quickly here. I love it. Really love it!!!!!!!

I love it. Really love it!!!!!!! They do speak quickly. I was in Spain last summer. My Spanish isn't great, but it's fun when I can use it. A couple of days into the trip I was excited to speak to man for quite awhile. At the end of our conversation I found out he was from Equador. No wonder I was doing so well! The further south west from Madrid I went on my trip the less I could understand and be understood.

It seems you didn't pick a good time to be in Barcelona unfortunately - I hope things don't get too nasty today.

We are just leaving the hotel now. It’s not cold but very overcast. The bus we area on is very comfortable and roomy.
We just passed a store called Nice and Crazy. Maybe I should take a look in there lol.
There is an election today to decide if Barcelona should cede from Spain. The results should be interesting.

There is an election today to decide if Barcelona should cede from Spain. I gather tensions are high, police are prepared for trouble - hopefully it'll be contained though.

Reports on the International channels are saying this is an unsanctioned referendum which the central government has sent police/ army (apologies, I am not sure) to stop; the military (?) vehicles are blocking the polling stations and removing the ballot boxes. Central government is saying this is an attempted coup. Be safe, enjoy your travels! ETA: and in fairness, my country is having an appalling political cycle too. Yesterday the ruling party's internal factionalism resulted in one "side" calling the police to remove the "other side's" supporters from a nomination conference. Stun grenades were used and 8 people were hospitalized. Deplorable.

We are in a coffee shop getting some lunch and haven’t seen any police or anything at all. It’s pretty calm seeing how it’s Sunday. The results should be interesting I am sure. No one here is talking about it. Some residences are hanging flags with a star on them which means they support independence. That’s all I know for now.

So my dad has a sore leg due to a recent injury. We were on a walking tour of the city and he wants to go sit and have coffee. He told me to go on with the tour. Would you leave your 75 year old father to fend for himself or join him for coffee? I mean he is in good health but I am not leaving him alone. Seriously, Dad, it’s a big city and there are issues going on here and I am not leaving you alone. What if something were to happen to him? I think this was a good and only decision to make.

The police have been firing rubber bullets at protesters and the was an anti ceding rally near where we were. Tons of police with big guns. He thinks he’s invincible or something. We had a great day today though. Saw the basicilica and it was beautiful and the history surrounding it was neat. Very cool. Then we were on a tour of the gothic part of the city when his leg started to hurt. He is fine but needs to slow down and rest a bit more. I don’t mean stop but take it easy. We don’t need to see everything.
We found a little restaurant where we got salads for lunch. Not big but definitely delicious. It was just so easy and appealing. Mine had this circle of goat cheese on leafy greens and he had a tuna salad. It was just so easy for lack of a better word. Food that we wanted to eat. There are bakeries everything but we needed protein to sustain us for the afternoon.
