I'm confused (and too lazy to reread to find out) are you going there for 10 days on the 12th instead of the California meet-up? Well good luck and I absolutely think we need an update after your first meeting to get the first impression. Have fun!

Update:
We spoke for a couple hours today and it solidified my choice. I asked him if he thought it was pointless to meet given our geographical issues and his response was pretty long and drawn out. In short he feels there is absolutely something to pursue and doesn't want to wait until work slows down to act on it. He said the grand gesture comment didn't light a fire (I disagree) We worked it out so he isn't funding my entire trip and I'm flying out on Friday the 12th and staying until the 22nd. My suitcase will be packed with toys for my nephew so I will fly out of DC. I don't want to annoy anyone with updates so let me know at which point should I provide one....midway through the Hawaii trip, after the Hawaii trip, or some other juncture. Thanks again for the advice. Definitely midway through the trip! (Those annoyed by updates don't have to open it to begin with) I hope it all goes really well Keep us updated for sure

Well I appear to be the oddball, but you know what Olan? YOLO!! Lol. I mean - if there's a good connection there which there seems to be, why not go for it. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Good luck, and I look forward to the updates!

Well I'm excited for you too!!! I can't wait to hear an update as well! I tend to do leap of faith things as well...I look at it as I'd rather deal with the consequences than wondering for the rest of my life "what if?".
Good luck and keep us updated!

Updates after meeting, midway through, and the end! How fun to be in the beginning stages of a new romance.
I'm way late to the party on this, but perhaps Cindy was confusing Olan with Benem?

I made a leap of faith, met the guy after just a few weeks of talking online, when he flew up on a whim (literally made a decision and bought a ticket within hours of talking about it), we met, he stayed with me, everyone in our lives was really pissed off and worried. 6 weeks later, he proposed, 6 months after we were married. That all happened in 1995/96. It's been the best thing I have ever done. Sometimes you just "know".

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'll be sure to update.

My husband and I met through match.com, we just celebrated our 10th anniversary. Although when we met online/in-person, we were only about 20 miles apart from each other, we were engaged a week after we met. So it can work.
Good luck to you!

Yeah, I met a guy online who lived 500 miles away in another state and was all nervous and worried about how things would work out--but that was nearly 16 years ago and we're still together, so I guess things worked out fine. It sounds like your amended plan is a good one and I hope the best for you.

Sounds exciting - sometimes in life you just have to take a chance - just don't let safety precautions fly out of the window. Enjoy yourself without looking too far into the future (all those what-ifs may spoil the moment and you can deal with them when the time is right) and of course please keep up updated as often as you can.
