We are having a birthday party for my youngest son on Saturday. He will be six. There should be 5 or 6 kids here, most will be 5/6 and two that are a little older. One of the boys will be late (maybe up to an hour). We are having a Star Wars theme. I've found some ideas for activities on Pinterest but am wondering if there are favorite activities or games that the peas have found work well for this age, so they aren't just running around the house the whole time. Any suggestions?

I've found some games that look like fun that involve shooting things with nerf guns (a piece of cardboard that has different figures on it like tie fighters, etc and a game where you shoot toilet paper rolls that look like storm troopers). Yay or nay? I don't know how people feel about nerf/shooting?

we did traditional party games for one of my girls at about 8 - pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey (easily adapted to a Star Wars theme, I think), water balloon toss, egg/spoon race, stuff like that. It seemed pretty popular with girls and boys.

Our neighbors had a Star Wars party for one of their boys a couple years ago. They had a piñata, the kids all did a "make your own lightsaber" craft with duct tape and foam pool noodles and then they spent the rest of the afternoon running around outside dueling with them.
For my kid's last birthday we did a bowling game, a 'pin the tail' type game, a photo booth, and a piñata. They all seemed to have fun with that.

For my kid's last birthday we did a bowling game, a 'pin the tail' type game, a photo booth, and a piñata. They all seemed to have fun with that. I was going to suggest this as well, if you can still find pool noodles this time of year. DS had a Star Wars birthday about that same age and we used wrapping paper spools, as his birthday is in early February, so I had everyone save their paper spools for me. You can blow bubbles and have the kids pop the bubbles with the lightsaber. I did a quick search on Pinterest for "Star Wars party games" and came up with a ton of ideas that look pretty simple. We usually did home parties for our kids and generally picked carnival/traditional games with a party theme twist. One that was very popular was dropping a clothes pin into a container. I'd use a wide opening when they were younger and narrow down the opening as they got older. (Think a basket, then a mason jar when they are older.) You can also increase the distance they are dropping the object from--have them stand on a chair or a step stool. If there are older kids at the party, you can increase the distance for them. I think the Nerf idea is a good one. Maybe use asteroids instead of "people" Storm Troopers, so the kids aren't shooting people, but objects. I also saw a game where cans were lined up with Storm Trooper printouts taped to the cans. The goal would be to knock the cans over with a ball or bean bag. Target has some really inexpensive Star Wars masks in the dollar section. I saw Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper this weekend. They could wear those with the eye holes taped shut and play a Star Wars version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. They would also make good party favors. $3 and done. As for the latecomer, just have him join in when he gets there. If you do decorate a lightsaber (or something similar), have one already decorated for him. And older siblings make good helpers for the games. My kids always like bossing their sibling's friends around!

If you can't find pool noodles, you can substitute foam pipe insulation from the hardware store or Home Depot, etc. The only thing is that it's dark gray instead of colored like a pool noodle. If you wanted it to be colored you could cover it with Silhouette vinyl from the craft store or colored duct tape.
ETA: you could also do a version of musical chairs using Star Wars theme music. Kids always seem to love the games where they can be up and moving around.

I couldn't find pool noodles so did get some cheap party masks and blow up light sabers online. I saw a "Jedi training" idea where they used "the force" to move balloons that are decorated like storm troopers (static electricity). That's a good idea to use a bean bag or ball to knock over cans instead of the nerf guns.
I went to the dollar store and found some mini 3D puzzles that they can either do as a project or take home in the goody bag.
I was debating about getting the beanboozled game. I know my kids like it but not sure about others.

My son has a Star Wars party coming, too. I gave him my ipad and a google image search of "Star Wars Party," and said pick a few things. One was a bounce house. You may have seen me ask for black butcher paper. I used my cricut to draw a death star on scrapbook paper for "shoot the death star" that I will glue to the paper so they can shoot with nerf dipped in finger paint (out back). One of his picks.
He wanted the pool noodles. Walmart has pool noodles on clearance for .50 right now. Prewrap the ends with silver duct tape, and provide precut strips of black duct tape (It's sold in sheets now). I made them all myself, but having them create their own is a great idea I hadn't thought of. I used my cricut to also cut small circles into duct tape sheets like stickers.
Use red crepe paper and create an obstacle course of red laser beams down a hallway. (Another pick of my son's.) Hand draw on white balloons upside down with storm trooper faces on them. I used my cricut to cut a Storm trooper stencil. I plan on putting the storm troopers at the end of the lasers in a room.
I skipped a pinata despite his request because we will already be on sugar-overload with test tube light sabers, dipped pretzel rods, cupcakes, and cookies, all his request.
Do you have a cricut?

Sounds like we have seen a lot of the same ideas. . I might do the light saber pretzels, depending on time. I'm doing the tie fighter oreos and a few other snacks. It will be pretty simple. I was thinking about shoot the Death Star but wasn't sure if I wanted to mess with the paint. But we will see. I'm not sure if I will have time to make that. I don't have a cricut anymore.

I would just skip it then. I'm up to my ears in projects, not including regular cleaning and "people are coming over" cleaning.

My son had a Star Wars bday party around the same age. I bought the small Lego Star Wars kits (spent probably $5-$7 per kit/kid) and that was the activity and the kids party favor. We did a piñata but DH and I painted a broom stick handle to look like a light saber - the kids loved it. Star Wars is such a fun theme! Love the idea above of the red crepe paper/laser obstacle course.

Nothing to do with Star Wars but my birthday parties almost always included cupcakes where you could decorate your own ... I would dish out frosting and containers of sprinkles ... a hit every year
