I'm on the antidepressant Pristiq. I'm currently trying to come off of it, but it's a very slow process. It gives me horrible dreams. Most nights they are nightmares. Last night they weren't, but the dreams are so vivid, and they are still scary (for instance I was flying through the air at great speed over forested hills where there were sporadic fires and I felt so out of control). I wake up exhausted and nauseated every single day. Has anyone dealt with this? Any tips for beating these bad dreams? I'm so anxious, I'm crying, I don't want to sleep. I'm just a mess.
I'm in touch with my psychiatrist, but I have to go see him; I'll be doing that in a few days or so.

Hi Zella. I take 100 mg of it and I get no nightmares or side effects from it at all. I wish I could help you. It has changed my life. My super specialist put me on 150 which was too much but 100 works well. I wish I had better news for you. I do get cold from it but that’s the only side effect I get really. I can live with it easily. Are you on antipsychotics? They are a game changer. They sound scary and yet they fix a lot of problems. I don’t take both that my psych wants me to take as it’s too much. Risperdone works great for me. It does sound scary but they just fix so much.

I am on 50mg and have been for a while. I have always had very vivid dreams, so I'm not a good one to ask. I will say that I have had very few side effects with this med and it made a world of difference in my daily life.
I'm sorry that it is not working out for you.

That probably means that other similar drugs will also give me the same problem. Nightmares are a known side effect for Pristiq, and I've read some comments by others who suffer from them. The last 2 nights have been better, which is a huge relief. It's a bummer because I do think the Pristiq is helpful for the depression.

I've always had vivid dreams too, but the ones on Pristiq are different. Worse. We just cannot find an antidepressant that works and that I can tolerate. It's very frustrating.

I have muscle stiffness, leg pain and arm and shoulder pain from it. I can’t live without it though. Seroquel puts me to sleep for days until it wears off. I can’t tolerate anything else. I know I say I hate sleeping and it’s 1:09 am right now. I can’t sleep. I had caffeine tonight and am now awake. I had chocolate ganache and I think it had espresso in it.

I hate sleeping and it’s 1:09 am right now. I thought you were in British Columbia, Delta Dawn-- I guess I was wrong? It's 4:20 pm, mid-late afternoon, here! It's odd sometimes, for me to think about the fact that us Peas are all over the world. zella, I don't have any info for you about Pristiq, but I know what you mean about the disturbing / vivid dreams. I dream like that off and on (I haven't figured out a pattern to it) and it always leaves me feeling unsettled and not totally rested afterwards.

One of my sons was on it for a few years, but it stopped being effective. We switched to Abilify and it has been *much* better, with fewer side effects. It is also much newer, but finally has a generic version - making it affordable. Have you tried it?

Funnily enough, I'm going to talk to my psych about Abilify. My dd is on it and isn't having any problems. crimsoncat05, Elannah does live in BC. I wonder if her comment got stuck in the ether? I know that happens with my phone with some regularity. Delta Dawn, some of those side effects can become permanent, and I'm already having a hard time walking and climbing stairs due to my chronic hip pain, I can't afford muscle stiffness on top of it.

I am in Victoria but I just left Seville to go to Madrid.
Risperdone is a really old drug. I have to hope it keeps working for me as Abilify made me crazy. So did everything else I tried. There is something new on the market in the US but not in Canada yet. I am hoping it will work better but am not hopeful. The side effects drive me to drink. I don’t get the 3 am energy that much any longer. I used to have to go for 3 hour walks at 3 am to combat this. It terries my parents. There is a cougar and a couple of bears in my neighbourhood now so I can’t go walking late at night any longer.

Elannah, somehow I missed that you were in Spain.
Yeah, walking at night when there are cougars and bears in the neighborhood would scare me too.
There's a running joke about there being a cougar on our island. "The Safeway cougar." I think because someone saw it once in the Safeway parking lot. But of course it's silly because it sounds like you're talking about an older woman prowling the aisles at Safeway.
We have a bear here too from time to time. He or she swims over from the peninsula. It's just a brown bear, not very big, but I really hope I don't ever see it. Of course given that I rarely leave my house, that's unlikely.
But I DO go to Safeway, including at night, so there is that.

I thought the cougar mystery was just folklore but who knows. There bears were just spotted recently. It’s a mother and cub about a mile fro my house. If it were just a story I wouldn’t believe they existed until there were recent photos of mom and cub. There is also a dad in the neighbourhood too obviously. I am not sure where he is but I am sure he’s not far away either. Regardless I no longer walk at night. I am not sure what’s worse to be honest. There is a rapist and a bear or cougar. It sounds like I am laughing but it is a serious threat now.

I hope so!! If you've updated on that recently, I missed seeing it. Hi, thanks for asking. I had one great month with minimal symptoms, and it was the best I'd felt in years. Unfortunately that's no longer the case. I'm currently having a mast attack. I also had one on Wednesday, two last week and two the week before. Each attack takes away two days at least, as there is a hangover from the attack and the meds used to treat it. To be honest I am utterly despondent to be back dealing with frequent attacks. I hate living this way, and right now there's no end in sight. I can no longer easily take my oral medication for nausea as it is giving me bad side-effects, so if the nausea is bad I have to use my IV med. It helps much more, but it makes me very drowsy (not necessarily a bad thing) and hung over the next day. I thought the worst was behind me; I'm no longer sure of that.
