I would call the city parking enforcement office. It would irritate me irrationally also.

You’re living my nightmare. I have a painting company with their storefront in our residential area. Their workers park all over...in front of my house, both sides of driveway, across from driveway. I understand they pay taxes and have a right to park, but not all their employees.
they have parked their little electric company car across from my driveway and left it there for TWO WEEKS. Three weeks ago one guy was hanging over my driveway. I took photos and sent to company and wrote a note and left on their windshield.
Hopefully the end is near. Owner said that they are looking for new building. I cannot wait for them to move.

I would absolutely start parking one of my vehicles in front of their house.

2 choices. Cops or put up with it. I always advise against talking to the neighbor because the one time I did it I damn near started WWIII. BECAUSE i had complained to them personally and when they refused to comply we then called the police. They knew it was us and they eventually threatened to kill our son. Never again. I now go to the cops first.

There is a semi that parks on the street behind us. It is the kind that holds about five to six cars (two levels) for transporting. One side of the street is the back side of garages for an apartment complex (so no driveways), but the other side of the street is all houses with driveways. I am surprised no one has called on that. We have four vehicles and are very lucky that our neighbor only has one car he keeps in his garage and he doesn't mind that one of my sons parks in front of his house. He parks towards the end of the neighbor's yard, so they can't see his vehicle (and no front window). While it is legal to park there, it is nice to know that your neighbor doesn't mind.

Our neighborhood has a 48 hour limit. The neighbors enforce it by calling the city. Parking is at a premium here so you follow the law or face the consequences. I'd report it to enforcement. They will enforce if they get nonstop complaints.

Validated. I’d be ticked off and call the cops at the exact time limit every single time. If it didn’t get better I might “spill”nails in the street under their tires.

That would bug me. We don't have a house across from us but there is usually a car parked there - bugs me when I am backing out of the drive way - I have no idea who it belongs to. Not too worried about it though. Another neighbor had a car parked in front of their house for a year with a flat tire and cobwebs - again I didn't complain even though it made turning onto the street difficult and I think its on their drive way but now there is a huge motor home across the street from this house now and they have been there for a while - its a narrow side street and they have a car behind it - no plates on the front (illegal in California) and it has the generator going. The noise is driving me batty. I am really tired and want to take a nap but no I can hear it over the TV - not sure which house they are visiting. Oh and we are in an HOA and no RVs are allowed but we all generally ignore them unless they are being a pain. So hoping they quiet down soon. I hate to be the grouchy neighbor but sleep is important.

oh heck no.....that is not ok. I would absolutely be that neighbor to complain. It's a public street. It won't do any good to complain. We have a very short, cut-through, street that connects our neighborhood to another. Both neighborhoods have an HOA. There is a house at the end of that street, with multiple cars in their driveway, as well as several parked along that street, usually VERY close to the end, making it very hard to see if anyone is coming. Because it is a city street, there is absolutely nothing that can be done about it. It really sucks, but, at least here in TX, that's the case. If their parking is causing a visibility issue, the City should be able to paint part of the curb red. Where I am, if a resident expresses a concern, they have to go look into it. They will do a Traffic Study or Safety Study. Its a liability for the City. I'm in California SaveSave

our town has an ordinance that vehicles have to be moved every couple days. call your police non-emergency number and see what the rules are about parking and leaving for days on end, and if there is an ordinance, report it

call the cops if they break the 72 hour rule. I had a neighbor doing that with a DJ trailer. It would sit there for weeks on end and it was really hard to see around them on a VERY busy street. We had a man walking that was hit by a car (and later died) right in front of our house. I maintain that he probably didn't see the damn car coming because of the dj trailer.
Those neighbors still don't like me.

We have a man in our neighborhood that parks his work vehicle in the street. So far, it's been in front of his house, or partly in front of the house next door. This vehicle is a big truck--with a big sign on the side-- We're Number one in the Number 2 business-- yes, it's a sewer pump vehicle. Every time I walk past it, I'm grateful they don't live next door to me!! I don't think the vehicle would fit in their driveway.
When I see it, I'm also grateful the man has a job (and a business apparently!) We have so many people in the neighborhood that don't work--many have even been evicted--So sometimes there is a silver lining in a bit of inconvenience for us! We have another neighbor (across the street) that ALWAYS parked in front of our house--it used to irritate me. But I got over it.
Good luck!!

I will validate you. Someone is doing this at one of my flips. They park across the driveway so no one can access the driveway. They stopped when we were rehabbing but as soon as it went into escrow and we stopped having people there every day, they started again. It ticks me off. The whole street is empty. Why block a driveway that isn't yours?

Nope not bitchy. I think it's bad neighbor etiquette. We had a similar situation and our only solution we came up with was to park our car on the street. And trust me, we would park just far enough from the driveway that we would get the maximum length. We eventually moved, but that is now something we look for every time we have bought a house since.

It sounds kind of shady to me. Almost like the owners of the company don't want people knowing exactly where they live. I wouldn't confront them about it, I would just go through proper channels to get it taken care of.

In that case I would call the second the 72 hours hit every time.
Once in a while wouldn't be a blip, but enough for me to notice would be.
My neighbors are very weird to me and I think they must have had a parking Nazi at their previous house. When they have a get together they park in their garage, driveway and yard and then block their driveway and right on each other's bumper to keep frim parking in front of others houses. Personally, I'd be okay with them in front of mine for a get together

We just moved from the suburbs to the city. Everyone on my street has driveways and garages but no one parks in them. Parking is one side of the street only too. People park so close to your driveway sometimes hanging over. This is going to drive me crazy. No hoa which I think we will miss.
I'd start calling at the 72 hour point. Will they ticket them or warn them?

Honestly, I'd park my car in front of my house to see if they take the hint. If not, and I saw them parking, I'd run out and say "hey, do you mind not parking in front of my house"? The only time I really had an issue is when I lived with my parents and someone would take the spot I shoveled. That would p*ss me off.

Previous posters have suggested calling at the 72 hour mark. I think you ask the city when you should call. I assume they are not going to issue a ticket based on your claim that 72 hours has passed, and they will probably mark and come back to check after another 73 hours. I think that would defeat the purpose.
My guess is since this is a habitual problem, you can call sooner than 72 hours, but the city should be able to guide you.

A neighbor has about 7 cars. 3 they use regularly and 4 junkers they rotate around the neighborhood. My DH talked to the guy and asked him to not park in front of our house and he stopped. No complaints, no arguments. It's been fine for the last 10 years. The trash collection guys HATE him (I'm guessing the car issues in our small cul de sac make it hard for them to maneuver ). They slam his cans down aggressively, then slam the arm down on the can a few times for good measure. It's almost comical. I wish I was home more often so I could record it.

It bugs me when people say "you don't own the street, get over it." As if they're unreasonable. Yet we have LAWS saying you cannot park more than 72 hours, and many HOAs (mine included) restrict service/work trucks.
I can't help but automatically imagine the naysayer is a similar offender who disregards laws and courtesy.

Honestly I think the laws /bylaws dictate what should and shouldn't be done. If the trucks are still there after the legal time period, call who needs to be called to take care of it. If it's legal for the public to park on the street, no one is being illegally blocked, etc., it's not anyone else's concern, in my opinion.

Parking trucks away from their house and in front of mine would piss me off, but I have become that house with too many cars. We have 5 cars now plus son's girlfriend's car when she is over (often). We have parking for 3 in the driveway, one in front of the house, the other 2 in front of neighbors' houses.
I feel bad but what option do I have? Soon I hope my sons will move out and that will leave just 2 or 3 cars.

As a city dwelling person, I can only dream of a life with wide open street parking. It wouldn't bother me it sometimes I have to walk half a block to my house if I've come home late.

I would bet they're doing it to 'widen their marketing canvas' Having vehicles spread over the neighborhood gives multiple people multiple chances to see their business advertising and having it in different spots often gives the illusion to passers-by that they are an in-demand business. If I had to guess I would say the intention is to be seen by a lot more people in a lot more spots than they would by parking in their own driveway.
rude.

I've posted this before and because I am lazy I just copied and pasted. This worked. We had a neighbor across the street who would park in front of our house and leave the front of his house empty. He did this for several days in a row. He could see he was taking the parking spaces that we use for our two cars. I own the world ugliest 1972 van with several colors of peeling paint and a ton of rust holes and dents. We keep the van for hauling material from the lumber yard etc. It is usually parked up in my driveway where it is not visible. The next time he parked in front of my house I got that ugly van and parked it in front of his house and left it there for almost a week until street sweeping day. I then pulled it back into my driveway and that neighbor never parked in front of my house again. Want to borrow my ugly, rusted, dented van?

Call it in! Our community does have an HOA, but call the police. The community has a "no parking" times. If they are parked on the street they get ticketed. The offender does not know who called. We've had trouble on our street. There are a couple of homes where 3-4 cars are on the street for days/nights at a time. Now the police regularly go through the neighborhood and ticket.

Call parking enforcement and don't feel bad about it! They certainly don't feel bad about leaving work vehicles parked for days on end in front of your house.
