I missed the first episode and a few first minutes of episode 2. Which episode is the back story were she shows up?
From what I saw last night she is a crude character and not my favorite. The sad thing is I have met a few parents like her.
I have decided to hold judgement for a few more episodes. They always seem to have extremely strange people for neighbors. So maybe the writers needed a new strange neighbor character.

The first episode was a fun one with the entire family on a houseboat ~ it probably wasn't supposed to be on Lake Tahoe but that's where it was filmed. Pam was introduced last season when she showed up pregnant and now lives in the apartment above them with her baby. I just find her character to be so loud and obnoxious that she ruins any scene she's in.

It was as if they inserted the American Mom or Rosanne into the mix. Spreading a wider net? The insistence on loud and crude is the reason we intentionally watch so few sitcoms.

When The Middle was new it corresponded to our kids' ages and we watched it as family on the weekend.

I can't believe Manny is in college already! Didn't realize the sister lived upstairs.

That's funny. I thought last night's was better than the lake episode . That proves that everyone has different tastes. Nice to get another opinion! The only two things I liked were Phil trying to play rock, paper, scissors with the robot and when he and Claire were in the wind tunnel thing. I have to say this out loud and I know I'm really in the minority. I'm not a big fan of Manny.

They lost me a couple of seasons ago. I'm still mad at ABC for cancelling Last Man Standing abruptly, yet letting The Middle have a final season.

Ugh. we thought the same thing! she is an annoying addition to the show and all the characters have now become caricatures of themselves. Phil the bumbling dad, Claire the alchi uptight mom, Haley the ditz, and worse of all, Manny....where do i begin? it's all gotten old for me.

Cam's sister: UGH.
I've stuck with the show through its entire life, which is unusual with me and situation comedies. I agree that all the characters have become tropes, but I still enjoy them. And somehow I don't tire of the misunderstanding-that-dominoed-into-a-crisis trope and the goofy physical humor trope. Also, I enjoy the documentary-type talking head scenes. The actor who plays Mitchell is a master of those.
But Cam's sister: UGH.

We thought last night's episode was funny. I like the way they shot Haley with Luke perched on one shoulder in his white outfit as the 'angel' and Vanessa William's character in her red dress on the other shoulder. No surprise which one Haley chose to listen to. I lose track of what happens in Haley's life whether she is in school, still doing her blog or whatever.
I liked the scenes with Alex. I don't like Cam's sister either but I think we are stuck with her for awhile.

It also seems like there is one character who is too stupid to live (Joey on friends, bull on night court, Luke on modern family). If you watch earlier episodes of friends, neither Joey nor Phoebe are as dumb as they were at the end.

I went over to the show's FB page and asked the writers to send her back to Missouri. Perhaps if several of us do that it will give the writers an idea of how much the character is disliked.

This is why I love Big Bang Theory. The characters have all become less the caricatures they were in the first few seasons, and more "normal". This show is unique that it doesn't follow the usual sitcom cliche. I agree that Modern Family has jumped the shark. They are all so annoying. Cam and Mitchell are so mean and jealous of each other, it's uncomfortable to watch. And yes, get rid of Cam's sister!

The Middle is also my favorite show! I didn't really like either one of the parents in the prior shows, so I was so surprised to enjoy the show so much. I can't tell you how many episodes feel like they've been plucked from my real life. I have to say I didn't like either episode of MF this season. I'm not going to stop watching it, because every now and then they make a great episode. But not nearly as good as The Middle in my book.

I actually found this one more amusing than the last one, but I agree that Cam's sister is a noxious character. And Lily had a season or two being a funny actress, but man, that kid delivers her lines like she's a Lincoln log. And I agree that I think this show, as much as I have enjoyed it, may have seen its better days.
