"The National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law," the NRA said in a statement. It’s a start. I don’t know why they’re even legal in the first place.

I hope they do ban them. And I do think it will pass. No responsible gun owner needs a bumpstock. SaveSave

So while the government is contemplating legislation, thousands more are spilling into the general public's hands. These things should have been pulled off the shelves immediately after it was known the killer used them. SaveSave

I love the bolded statement! It's exactly how I feel.
I wish the sale of this bump stock could be stopped NOW. Like Gina, I know a few that are interested in buying one "just because". It's an accessory they didn't even know existed. I hate the fact that this murderer has made the bump stock widely known so now extremist are wanting/buying them.
ETA: I'm not sure my statement is correct, is it the murderer or the news that should get the credit for making them widely known to the general public?

The thing I have learned about narcissists is they give you a pebble and try and make you think its a damned diamond and why should you ask for more since they offered that pebble. The Gun industry (aka NRA) are a bunch of narcissists.
I am angry and distraught I am happy for something Something is NOT enough Something should have happened a LONG ASS Time AGO Something should have happened AFTER our (general our) babies at Sandy Hook Elementary were slaughtered in a safe zone of their school classroom I will be not gaslite with a pebble I despise the NRA
That said, I do have slim a glimmer of hope. I listened to some interviews yesterday of gun owners distraught, broken, and voiced some reason. It is those people who finally see the causal relationship of NOTHING and is more MASS MURDERERS!
I was grateful. BUT I am still angry, distraught, and hurting for the families who lost their loved ones to a murderer.

And if you search YouTube for "bump fire", you can plainly see that these aren't necessary for bump-firing a weapon. It can be done without these stocks, on weapons ranging from handguns to AR-15 style rifles. On top of that, these stocks are easy to 3D print, so banning the sale of them is almost meaningless.

Because some people think the liberals in government are out to get the honest working man, so screw you and your legislation. How dare you take away my 2nd amendment rights! ...as they order 3 bump fires... I read gun stock goes up and sales increase, too, after a shooting. People are so messed up.

I have to think that there is an ulterior motive for them to be urging for regulations. Probably to avoid other regulations from being brought up. But, at least it is a step.

did you happen to see my reply to you Kristin? On the other thread? Yes. I understand people's reasoning, such as living in the country or hunting. I believe when I made my post I was looking at the map of the world and noticed that there are many people who live in the middle of nowhere (my parents do as well, but no gun) and there are not even close to the number of guns that we have here. However, I personally believe that in most situations, guns are more of a danger to their owners than they are a help.

Excuse me if I don't buy their BS. Sure, they'll "look at it", but honestly, it's a nothing-burger, so to speak. Ok, ban them - so people will just print them. They need to pass real legislation. This is just the crumb they are offering to appease.

Still be suspicious--they are asking the AFT to handle it, because if they do, it won't go before congress where there could be more discussion about more gun control regulations. The NRA ain't dumb. 😖

As MSNBC’s Chris Hayes reported tonight, please “read the fine print”: the NRA’s move is self serving.
“The National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law," the NRA said in a statement. "The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations."
And as Politico reports:
“The move by the influential gun lobby, which often stifles any legislation that might be interpreted as curbing Second Amendment rights, is designed to head off a messy gun control debate in Congress. Officials with the group have told Capitol Hill Republicans and Trump administration officials they would prefer a new rule or regulations from ATF, rather than hastily cobbled together legislation.
The NRA and its allies in the gun-rights movement want to avoid the airing in Congress of controversial issues such as universal background checks on gun sales, a ban on assault weapons and limits on high-capacity ammunition magazines.”
Sen Diane Feinstein issued this statement:
“ The ATF in 2010 made clear that they did not have the authority to regulate bum stocks under the gun control act or national fire arms act… Legislation can and will save lives in Congress should act immediately .”
The NRA’s statement sounds nice but means nothing.
