Four friends and I saw the movie today and all of us loved it. We recommend the movie. If you like British history you should like the movie. It is based on a true story. At the beginning of the movie it says, "Based on a true story, mostly" hahah I presume that means the script writer embellished what was said in private meetings. Abdul's journals were found in 2010 and that is the basis for the movie. I had seen the PBS Victoria series and this just adds to her story. Judy Dench does well in the movie (as usual). www.imdb.com/title/tt5816682/?ref_=nv_sr_1

I have this on my list of movies to see, but have to say I laughed when I first saw the preview. A second movie about Queen Victoria and a male staff member? She certainly was an interesting monarch.

I saw this movie over the weekend and enjoyed it. Watched "Mrs. Brown" many years ago. Went back and watched it again after we saw Victoria & Abdul. Amazing to have the same actress portray Victoria in the span of several decades. Judi Dench really is the Grand Dame.

I had free tickets to see this movie and was looking forward to it but then realized I already had a commitment on the same night so I didn't get to go to the movie. I want to see it though.

I can’t wait to see this although I really hate going to the movies any more. I plan to sink into it when it hits cable in 6 months or so.

I wanted to see this last night, but DH campaigned for Bladerunner which was really good in its own way.
But he's getting dragged to see it whether he wants to or not! lol

I really want to see this to but will wait until it hits Netflix or Amazon. I never go to the movies anymore unless it's something that really has to be seen on a big screen, for instance for the cinematography.
I'm really glad to hear such a glowing recommendation for it.

I saw this last night. The two main actors were terrific but IMO, the movie was so-so.

I liked it but thought Mrs. Brown was better.

My thoughts I wish they would have built the relationship slower - it felt very rushed. Other than that it was enjoyable.
