I was placing an order and 1 box is $40.95??? I still pay my security system every 3 months with a check because they won't take anything else and the alterations lady- that's about it. I use a credit card or draft for everything else. Guess I need to check with the security company about drafting. I'm thinking about severing the cord because that is ridiculously high to me!

I use checks for school fundraisers, for the Chinese fast food place and for my allergist. That's usually about it.

There are cheaper places to get your checks. I am assuming you are checking at your bank.
Yes, I still use checks every now and then.

You're ordering from the wrong place. I still use checks and don't pay close to that and get multiple boxes.

Nope, I still need them. Our power company doesn't do online yet or if they do they charge for it. And to pay the property tax. It is a 4% charge for using a debit card? ?? Wth. And 2% for credit card.

Ouch! I last ordered personal checks from Sams but that's been years and I still have a ton left. Google cheaper places, I've paid like $10 for checks before (different account). But, yes I still right them....school stuff, the girl that cuts our hair, mostly just random stuff like that. All the monthly bills are paid online.

I opened my current account in 2015 and didn't bother to get cheques. I think DH writes a handful - mostly to school

I use checks for a couple of things during the month, but I get my checks for free through my bank. If I was careless and didn't realize I was running out I might have to pay for expedited shipping, but nothing over 10.00.

We still get ours free through Wells Fargo but I don't write too many. Property taxes is the one that irks me the most. No way am I paying a 2% service charge for the privilege of using my credit card online!

The only thing I write a check for is school stuff. So one box last me forever.
I agree with the posters above me, I don't pay anywhere near that for a box of checks. I just looked and one box cost me about $14.00 for custom school logo checks. I get them through Identitychecks.com

I write a check once every 2-3 months. Try checksinthemail for cheaper checks...$40 is WAY too high.

I pay most of my bills via check. Check Costco. I ordered two boxes recently and remember it being 25ish?

I still use cheques to pay for school field trips and the hair stylist (she works out of her home so doesn't take credit cards) ... it definitely takes a long time to go through a box

Most of the online check ordering websites have special, super low prices for your first order, so I generally use a new company every time I order them, which is once every 1-2 years. I actually still write checks for most monthly bills, plus certain other companies that charge a premium for card use. And I wrote one today for the property taxes.

mom Thanks! It's been forever since I ordered and they were only around $20ish for a box. These sites are much better!

I still use checks but rarely. I write one every few months. I agree with others that if you are paying $40 you are really looking In the wrong place. Shop around. l think I paid under $5 for a thousand checks a year or so ago. I remember thinking at the time they would last me for the rest of my life.

Still write checks, probably 7 or so in the last month. I found while we were having our house renovated most of the trades people only took checks or cash. Not going to give someone $1,000 cash. There are also some department stores whose websites are awful so I write and mail them a check. I used to live close enough to the mall that I would pay there but I'm not driving half an hour to pay a bill.

I think I wrote maybe five checks in the past year. They were all for things like donations to the volunteer fire dept. or other fundraiser. I don't know how much they are per box because I haven't ordered any new ones in four years.

I still write a few. My hairdresser is self employed and only takes cash or check. A couple of service calls every month or so. Property taxes in two different counties...both charge ridiculous fees to use plastic. A few local donations. I would say probably 2 to 3 per month. Our checks are free from the bank. My DH is a senior officer there so that may be why they are free for us though.

I still have to use them surprisingly often. School (field trips, fundraisers, book purchases, etc.), one doctor that only takes cash or checks, gymnastics meet fees and uniform fees, property taxes, some donations, and I'm sure plenty of things I'm not thinking of. A lot of them are for things like school where it's a small amount, like $5, but for tracking and accounting, checks are preferred over cash. I wrote something like 10 checks just last week, although that's not normal even for me. But I do have to write them often enough that I do carry the checkbook in my purse.

School activities are about it since the water bill can finally be paid online. My checks still have my ex's name on them....4 years later.
