This is probably a long shot but when we were in Hawaii, my husband really liked some of the shirts in the higher end stores - thicker cotton material, some with embroidery, etc. Not the cheap ones for sale in the regular gift stores - those I don't have any trouble finding. He intended to buy one but we didn't spend much time shopping and it never happened. Now I'm trying to track one down for Christmas but it's impossible to tell what the quality/material is from photos on the web. So my inquiry is - does anyone here have one of these types of shirts? More specifically, does your husband/male SO have one of these types of shirts and if so, could you check the brand and let me know what it is? I figure if I can search specifically by brand, I'll have an easier time finding what I want vs. taking my chances on Amazon or somewhere similar. TIA!

Reyn Spooner. Very high quality, on the more expensive side. They have an online store.
ETA - are you near a Nordstrom? They carry Reyn Spooner and other brands, at least out here on the West Coast. You can look at the quality there.

I think they have Tommy Bahama at Sam's. Not sure if it is what you are looking for though. They aren't cheap material, but they aren't expensive either.

Hilo Hatties is an actual Hawaiian-made brand (we didn't have a chance to go to the store when we were there, darn it) that I think you can buy online. eta: yup, you can: Hilo Hatties online (men's clothing) I see Hawaiian shirts / dresses (some of then bona fide vintage ones) occasionally in the thrift stores, too, or in antique malls.

These are the best. They are pricey, but worth every penny. They wash and wear great. And they have some really nice ones that don't look cheesy!

Hilo Hatties. They have an online store. Dad has some I sent him over 10 years ago that are still getting wear.

When DH and I went in 2005, we ordered matching shirts for both of us from this place, and they were really nice: Hawaiian Islands Paradise . They have a HUGE selection and they were pretty reasonable, plus we were able to order them before we went on our trip so we had them already when we got there.

If you did not already find what you were looking for I shop from Aloha Outlet. They have lots of brand names and selections. I ordered my mom 2 Hilo Hattie dresses and they are great quality. Aloha Outlet

Another vote for Hilo Hatties. They're made in Hawaii, so a REAL Hawaiian shirt. Plus they wash and wear well.

Reyn Spooner used to be the brand that was licensed to make major league baseball fan shirts. Maybe they still are, and maybe they do other sports if you're interested.

Also, Tory Richard had some really nice Hawaiian shirts. DH got one at the Tory Richard Store at Whalers Village in Ka'anipali.

We are big Tommy Bahama people. Love their shirts. My dad gets a new one every time I tell him to.

Hilo Hattie's has nice men's shirts. My husband worked in a garment factory one summer in college and he said he likes how the Hilo Hattie men's shirts match the patterns on the pockets so they line up.

I have bought very nice cotton clothing at Hilo Hattie's. I'm ashamed to say, I'm still wearing a shirt I bought there 10 years ago. It's getting a bit worn now. LOL That said, I think Tommy Bahama is classic and always a good choice.

Reyn Spooner, Tori Richards or even try Manuhaalli. All of them have online stores. Kahala is also a really nice brand. My DH has a ton of Kahala shirts. I will probably get flamed for this, but I don’t like HH at all.

They sell plenty of junk I wouldn’t touch, but I’ve also found nice things there.

Tommy Bahamas are great....but pricey. They are my favorites. However, I shop thrift stores and seldom pay over $4 for DH Hawaiian shirts....he has a closet full. I only bring home high end brands.
