I scrap in a beautiful room with lots of windows so natural light is plentiful during the day but in the evenings (and overcast/gloomy days) it is really difficult to see the true colors of papers etc. I have (2) 5' rice paper lamps and as much as I love them they give the room that warm color and casts shadows and yellows on my papers.
I need something to put on my work space that will allow me to see accurate colors. I've always heard that OttLites are wonderful but I honestly know nothing beyond that.
I would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

I love my Ott light. I got it on sale at Joanns online for 20 dollars. I think its just the desk lamp though, I know they make quite a few of them, so I am not sure which one is best.

I have two different Ott lights, both purchased from Joann's during their super-duper-lighting sale (I think)... I do recommend them for the true-to-life light wavelengths. If you want a desktop one, I suppose part of it would be your preference and how you want to use it, since some have storage caddies, etc. I have one similar to this one, although mine has a gooseneck instead of a telescoping neck. In my craft room it sits on a side table for ambient light, and it travels with me to retreats. I also have a floor one with a pattern holder and magnifying glass that I can use if I'm crafting in the living room or dining room, both of which have crappy lighting. On my desk I have a drafting-style lamp that clamps to the edge of the desk, like this one. It's not a daylight bulb, but it does allow me to get the light RIGHT to what I'm working on.

I use tertial lamps from Ikea with an ott bulb in it. Very happy with the set up. I use daylight bulbs overhead but at night it isn't always enough (not much natural light in my room at all during the day either) so it helps keep everything nice and bright.

Ott Lights are amazing! I have several, and my daughter that is on night shift LOVES hers. On her “days/nights off” she has to stay up all night to keep her schedule so the Ott Lights really help her to feel more like it’s daytime when she is up and everyone else is sleeping. We bought her a really nice one for her living room and a smaller one for her desk at Joann’s and got them 50% off.

I have this OttLite. It is awesome. I also put Ott bulbs in the floor amp by my scrap desk so I have light coming in both directions. It makes crafting in winter much easier on my eyes. Hooray, we get to enable nicolep!!

I'm an Ott light lover, too. I have a portable one that opens up like a flip phone, but they make quite a variety now. I use it for scrapping and for quilting - nothing like true colors.

I'm another one who has a couple of Ott Lights and loves them. I've had a smaller one called the universal task lamp for a long time that was great for traveling/crops, but falls down easily. I got another one last year - a desk lamp that I can't find the name of - that I like much better. I used a Michael's 60% off coupon on it and it was a great deal.

Tuesday Morning often has ott lamps. I got a clip on one that I attached to a shelf above my work area. It is small but gives off lots of lights. I also have a desktop one that I bought at Michaels with a coupon.

I love my Ott desk lamp! It shows true colors. They can be super expensive, though, so you need to find a sale or good deal.

I have several of them, a flip up desk one that plugs in, a flip up mini desk one that’s battery operated to take to crops and two office type brass based desk lamps with Ott bulbs in them that I scored for a smoking hot deal at Office Depot years ago (so don’t neglect to check places like that when they’re clearancing stuff out, I think mine were just $10-15 each which is why I have two).
Now I don’t use most of them regularly because DH changed out most of the recessed lights in my studio with multiple overhead cloud lights fitted with daylight fluorescent bulbs. They make a huge difference.
ETA: I’ve seen them multiple times at Tuesday Morning very reasonably priced, so if I were shopping for one today that’s where I would check first, followed by JoAnn’s or Michael’s with a good coupon around Black Friday.

So, I have been looking at many of the lights suggested and am questioning size for my workspace.. Would someone mind advising me on the lamps as far as that goes? I work on an 8' table in front of me and have 6' of supplies on each of me. It's the shape of a U. The main priority would be that my 8' work table would be well lit.

As I mentioned above, I have a shelf above my main work area and I have a clip-on Ott light attached to that. It lights up exactly what I am working on, and it is bendable so I can move it around a bit. I also have a desktop lamp on one of the U's for overall lighting. For your longer desk, I would probably get the Ott lamp that has a base and sits on your table. But, have I mentioned that I love that little clip-on Ott lamp?!

I got a very similar one ( this model) that has 5 different light colors and variable brightness, so I can have it on the daylight setting for crafting and color matching, but then I can make it more yellow and dim it for a little extra lamp light at night (my workspace is in my living room). The price was good and the lamp bends in several places to direct light where you want. Scanning down the thread though, I'm not sure if it would light your whole workspace. I have a folding table and this creates a pool of light to work in but doesn't evenly illuminate the whole table.

I got this lamp from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V9YW41O/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1I've tried OttLites before and haven't loved them, because for me sometimes they're too harsh. What I love about this light is that it has different lighting modes and dimming capabilities so I get to truly customize it to what I need at that moment. I also love that it's a clamp lamp and doesn't take up much room on my desk.

I got an Ottlite desk lamp several years ago at Joann's around their Black Friday sale. I think I ordered it online (the stores didn't have any) for like $35 or so. Sometimes I wish it cast a larger area of light, but maybe if I clear off my messy desk it will be better.

I have a large U shaped desk and two 8’ work tables butted up together with another 5’ table butted up across the ends. I have overhead lights with 4’ daylight bulbs so the whole room is lit up like Christmas, LOL. If I didn’t have that, I would think more than one light would be needed to illuminate all of the work areas for a desk like mine. I don’t think one lamp will do it.

I use the same lamp from Ikea, but I just use the led bulb that came with it. I find the colors are right on, but I don't video or photograph with it. Just use it to light the spot on my desk where I work in our great room.

I have this one which I love. Not the most attractive, but so easy to move and get the light exactly where I want it. So even if other light sources in the room get blocked or cast shadows, I am able to easily direct the light where I want it.

I have the desk top Ott light that folds down. It's great for taking to crops because it folds it doesn't take up much space. I have had it for awhile now, probably 10 years and it's starting to not stay up. It keeps falling down. I need to see if I can wrap some tape or something around it to get it to stay up.
I looked at it closer and you can tighten the areas it folds. I think I fixed it.
