pudgygroundhog , thanks! I'm in the market for a smaller camera for travel, but I should not be complaining because that's a lot of equipment to hike with! Have you looked at the Sony mirrorless cameras? Not as small as a point and shoot, but definitely smaller than traditional DSLR. If I already didn't have a lot of money invested in my current setup, I would take a look at it. We have a fantastic small point and shoot (Canon G16 - considered a "bridge camera"), but I can never give up my DSLR for our big trips. Yes - I've got three mirrorless cameras (Sony, Canon & Panasonic) in my Amazon cart. I'm trying to figure out if I can use the glass I already own for my Canon DSLR with the mirrorless before I buy one.

So gorgeous! I'm jealous! My DS and DDIL did a weekend hike up there in June and loved it. DS also has a great eye for photo composition, so I love to look at all the lovely photos.

Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful photos! I am sooooo jealous! Something like this is/was my dream. But sadly I must admit I have stopped hiking . After my encounter with the mountain lion I just don't enjoy it like I did. I tried to continue on but it was really getting to me. I was always on alert and not relaxed. I hope someday I will be able to get back to it.

I really hope you never stop sharing your pictures. Just so beautiful. I too, love that Milky Way shot! It's hard to believe all those stars are above us every night, but invisible due to the light pollution. My family took hiking/photography trips when our two sons still lived at home. In addition to seeing amazing places, we found an unexpected side benefit was that the hours and hours of uninterrupted time together day after day was a wonderful way to stay connected (especially in their teen years)! You're more rugged than I am though, if I go camping I need a campsite and a latrine.

I don't want to highjack your thread but here is the linkI feel like such a coward. :-O That's not cowardly at all. Mountain lions are scary since they stalk and will attack. Bear attacks are mainly defensive. I've never had a mountain lion encounter - they scare me more than other animals (except for maybe ticks, lol).

You're more rugged than I am though, if camping I need a campsite and a latrine. It is nice to have time together without distraction. Although my husband probably could've done without the marketing campaign for Instagram, lol. And my daughter likes to sing, but for many songs only knows the chorus (or just a few lines). I made a new rule with my family that if you are going to sing, you need to do some research before the trip and know more lyrics to the song. ;-)

Thanks for sharing your pictures - beautiful.
Can I ask some nosey questions? Do you run in to many other people while hiking? You said your husband hiked out for supplies - did you and your daughter make a camp and wait? How far to you usually hike in a day? Have you ever been frightened while hiking? Though beautiful-the solitude makes me a bit nervous.
I could took at thousands of your pictures...
My ‘hiking’ experiences have been the short popular walks at national parks. I also enjoy nature from inside a lodge like the Jackson Lake lodge or the Ahawhnee hotel. Hanging my head in shame....
