Bought it today. Delivery on Wednesday. DH and I couldn't agree on any other matress that would work for both of us. It gets great reviews but then there are the people who can't stand theirs. We have 30 days to sleep on it so I know I'm not totally screwed, but... It's a lot of money.
However, I'm totally excited to maybe just maybe my back won't be killing me in the morning.
If you own one, any thoughts. Especially value for money.

I think it takes some time to break it in. We just purchased a Sleep Number. So much money. I cross my fingers that it was the right choice. We thought about Tempurpedic, but we tried out sleep number afterwards and went that route.
10 years ago we were deciding between the two and the sleep number had issues so we didn't commit. I've used memory foam pillows in the past with mixed results. Not sure what will happen to our bed if I don't think the memory foam is effective. Cry and suck it up. LOL
Give yourself more time. We really liked them when trying them out. We were indecisive about which one.

We were told it has a learning curve, but none for me. And only one nights adjustment for DH.
Do you have any purchases that you look at and say, "Best thing I ever did?"
Well our Tempurpedic is one of those for us. It's 7-8 years old and still in same shape as when we bought it. It's an expense that is well worth the price.
I've read some people think they're "hot" but my DH is like a toaster and he hasn't felt uncomfortable.
ETA and maybe TMI: Normally I'm more easy going and compromising, if needed, with my DH. But i 'm the one with back issues. If there is snoring, or one of us is sick, or whatever, I never leave the Tempurpedic. It's that good- I have joked I grow a backbone once the mattress is involved.

We bought a tempurpedic mattress topper and we both hated it. I was sweating all night long. Hopefully they've improved that with this new "cooling" technology.

We have had one for about 6 years or so. I love it! My DH has a lot of back problems and this mattress really helps him. I do think it does seem hot sometimes. Not enough to be a deal breaker, though!
I hope you enjoy yours!

We bought one last year and I was the same as you.
DH LOVED it from the first night. I almost cried for 2 weeks because I thought we had wasted a boatload of money for something I would hate every night.
Then one night, it just changed. I loved it. My body just took a lot longer to get used it, but once I did, I really did end up loving it.
As others have said - give it some time. You might end up liking it. I

I don't have one because I was concerned about the getting too hot. I think I am a heater blanket. LOL We went with Sleep Number. That took a couple of weeks to get used to but I love it now. But, what I think I really love is the adjustable base. In other words, I suspect there are a number of mattresses that I would have been fine with as long as I had the adjustable base. I LOVE that DH no longer snores. I wake up very easy. DH says a mouse walking across the floor would wake me up. LOL It really helps that he no longer snores and that I can lift my head the way that it is most comfortable for me without worrying about pillows falling, etc. So, my recommendation is to spend the $$ on an adjustable base and get a mattress that you think will work for you.

We bought one and I lasted 4 nights on it and moved to the couch, My DH liked it for his back but I was so miserable on it I couldn't sleep. They really do take them back,. We returned ours and bought a sleep number bed instead. Best nights sleep ever. We both the temperpedic on recommendations from friends. They love theirs and wouldn't sleep on anything else. I think it's such a personal choice-I do know people who have them and love them think they are worth every penny. I hope it works out as well for you

I don't have a actual tempurpedic, it's something like a Serta pillow top memory foam (or maybe not, DH bought it at Sleepy's before I moved out to PA so I had no hand in choosing it but I trusted be could handle it). It's kind of hot, though I sleep with a fan. It's about 6 ft tall and I practically need a stepstool to get into bed but I love, love, LOVE how it makes my back feel. I've never in my life known what ours like to lie on my back and not have a huge space under the small of my back, I've got quite a curve there. I've finally got support under my whole back. I wake up pain free every morning. I miss it whenever I travel. We just got it about a year and a half ago and I wish I would have gotten it years sooner.

We had one and it was ok for a while. But it didn't last the 20 years they claim. We had it for maybe 8 years before it started to breakdown to the point we were both in incredible pain. We opted to not get a new one because they prorate the age of the mattress and you have to pay the difference.
We are currently using a mattress from Ikea while I save my pennies for a heavenly bed. DH has 2 ruptured disks in his back from a car accident and these are the only mattresses he can use that don't hurt.

We have the Serta I comfort gel memory foam. It's just like Tempurpedic but stays cool, has a 15 year warranty and was half the price

Thanks for the input. We took the entire Labor Day to pick it out so after laying on a hundred mattresses, it felt comfortable from the start. I'm hoping DH can adjust. I just hope we didn't waste a boat load. The one DH liked was a GH Sterns which I guess is owned by Sterns and Foster. It just wasn't comfortable to me.
I'm so pleased to read some of you had great relief with your backs. That is like angels singing to me!

We've had ours for 2 years. It did take a couple of weeks for my body to adjust to it but after the 2 weeks it was fine. I get hot very easily and I don't get any hotter on it than any other mattress I've slept on. I have two herniated discs and never wake up with back pain now. Expensive, but so worth it!

We had a knock-off Temperpedic from Macy's and DH hated it. I loved it. So last year we bought a Sleep Number bed. I get up in pain every.single.day. no matter how I adjust that damn bed. I hate it. DH though...well he loves this one. UGH UGH UGH

We've had one since about 2007 or so. We both really love it. We originally got it to help with DH's back pain when he was really really ill. He had severe nerve pain and a lesion in his spine -- it was miraculous how much better he felt with this bed.
We still love it. Neither of us has had a problem with being overheated.
I have a friend who bought one and hated it. They were wonderful about taking it back with no questions asked. Not an issue at all.

We broke down and bought ours last year and it's been the best purchase we have ever made! It did take about me about 10 days for my body to get adjusted and DH about 4 days. I don't think I could sleep on any other mattress now. It's still in the same shape as when we bought it. Totally worth the money!

We have had ours for 10 yrs now and love it. It did take me about 2 weeks go get used to it as the first week or so I was waking up in the morning in pain from it. But like someone else said, one day the pain was gone. Best $1300 we spent. At the time I could have killed hubby though for wanting to spend that much

I hate ours and we have had it a year. It isn't for everyone and the reviews I read were pretty split - love or hate. So that wasn't too helpful. I get really stiff in the hips and lower back if I lay in one position all night, so for tossing and turning type, it isn't so good. Also turning it hasn't helped because my dh doesn't like how my side is contoured now. I ended up putting thin but firm pillows between my matress and boxspring and it seems to help a bit. I feel like it was a giant waste of money.
I lol'd also when reading the comments/reviews/articles online about s@x on the tempurpedic mattress "it's like doing it in quicksand".

We have been thinking about getting one because the sleep number bed we have just kills my back. My dh loves the sleep number bed. I worry that it will be another expensive mistake.

We have Sleep Number and love it.
I have two different friends who have Tempurpedic and they both love theirs. However, it took them a while to get used to it. Maybe a week or ten days. Depending on where you bought it, they may let you return it.

I love love love mine!!! But, it wasn't always love affair! We almost returned it in the 30 day window...it was an adjustment. Now, I can't sleep well on anything else. We have had ours for about 7 years.
