I've been invited to go to a Walk to Emmaus weekend. I'm reluctant to get out of my comfort zone. Have any of you been and can you give me an idea of what I'm in for? lol

I have been to Walk to Emmaus. You are perfectly safe. Its a wonderful weekend that is kind of like a conference with lots of fun surprises interspersed. I dont want to give too much away because everyone should have their own experience. But overall, I did not feel out of place or put on the spot for anything. I met several lovely ladies. The only weird thing was I was 29 at the time and was the youngest person there by about 15-20 years. (The Methodist Church in my state tends to be older long time members...I dont think they have a lot of skill in gaining younger families)

I haven't been to it. I have been to several other retreats and conferences. I went to Tres Dias which I have heard is similar. I loved it! It was impacting, nothing that made me uncomfortable, loving and respectful and very grateful that I had the opportunity and took the time to go. link

Thank you for the replies. I have a few weeks to make a decision. I'm just not one who wants to speak or pray in front of others, so I am trying to figure out if this is for me.

I am not Christian, so haven't been myself, but my mother went earlier this year and she loved it. She said it was a really touching, great experience. She's a Scandinavian Lutheran, so not a fan of anything demonstrative . Since she loved it, I doubt there's too much putting anyone on the spot. For what it's worth, she was skeptical about going - didn't think it would be her "thing" - but decided to go because all of her best church friends were going. She's very glad she decided to take a chance and go.

From what I have read you have to be invited to go, so for that reason, I guess I consider it an honor to be asked--therefore I probably should go. Glad to hear the good comments about it.

Yes, you have to be invited and I guess the person that invites you does some special things for you during the retreat. My mom told me about them, because she knew that I'd never be going, but they ask you not to tell others about them so as not to ruin the experience for future attendees. I am not a fan of surprises, but what she told me about was all quite wonderful and surprises that even I'd enjoy (you know, if I had any interest in going LOL). Based on what she told me about the whole retreat, I think most anyone would enjoy it.

That sounds what I was told about Tres Dias too. I do remember being in a small group and shared some but didn't have to do anything beyond what I felt comfortable with and it was just in a small group not to the entire group. It was a very safe environment covered in love and prayer. I remember walking away from that experience so blessed, loved on and grateful for the experience.
