Watchdog: DHS employees lost 228 firearms over three years BY BRETT SAMUELS - 10/31/17 02:24 PM EDTDepartment of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel lost more than 200 firearms and close to 1,900 badges over a three-year period, according to a new watchdog report. Between fiscal 2014 and 2016, DHS personnel lost 228 firearms, 1,889 badges and 25 secure immigration stamps, with many left unattended or unsecured, DHS's Office of the Inspector General said in an audit released Tuesday. Those numbers are down slightly from the inspector general’s last audit, conducted in 2010, which found that DHS personnel lost 289 handguns, rifles and shotguns over a three-year period. The latest audit found personnel do not always safeguard sensitive assets, and were not always held accountable for failing to do so. In a review of 115 case files, auditors noted 65 instances where badges, firearms or stamps were not properly protected, according to the report. In one example, two off-duty Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers left their firearms unattended in backpacks while on a beach in Puerto Rico. When the officers returned, the bags were gone. **************** A stolen ICE firearm was used to kill a man in a September 2015 robbery near San Francisco. Four other cases ended with police recovering lost assets from convicted felons, including three firearms and one badge, according to the report. **************** more at link:

I have to share this fascinating, but long article: What bullets do to bodiesNo pictures, but it's an interview with the head of trauma surgery at Temple University Hospital. She got tired of seeing the same people come back getting shot again so she created an outreach program to educate people on the danger of guns. She also created a controversial program where she invites patients to watch their surgery video, all surgeries are recorded. The idea is that if they see just how badly their body was destroyed by the bullet, how she has to cut open chests/rib bones which make a horrible sound, perhaps they will think of leading a different lifestyle. She said people think that all that needs to be done is just remove the bullet, but it's not that simple, one bullet can do so much damage. She said she wished the pictures of the children who died at Sandyhook were public, then she believes legislation would have changed. She thought for sure once a bunch of white kids are shot, something would change but no. Her hospital is primarily black gun shot victims which apparently slows down in the winter time.

For starters, let's fire anyone that loses a weapon. I'm willing to bet they are all card carrying members of the NRA and consider themselves to be responsible gun owners.

My hometown had a rash of burglaries this year and guns were being stolen from people's unlocked cars. I feel like they should be responsible if something were to happen with those guns. I know we would never have a registry for guns, but if we did and people were held accountable for irresponsibility, then I think it would help on guns getting into the wrong hands.

california strengthened the laws to give serious consequences to law enforcement that lose guns in car break ins.. the guns must be secured. we have about 25,000 car break ins in a month.. and you can believe they get guns in the break ins..
at least 4-5 officers had their guns stolen out of their cars last year. geeze.. mostly out of towners.. who haven't a clue..

See this is why my household can't have guns. If we can't remember to close our kitchen cabinets, how are we supposed to keep track of a firearm?
