Brochu-Updated No Hate Crine

I think you've got to qualify this statement. For a few decades following the civil rights movement, racism wasn't socially acceptable in polite society. It's clearly becoming socially acceptable in some segments of "polite society" again. The President of the United States had at least one avowed white nationalist and one actual Nazi on his staff and though they are gone now, they weren't fired for their openly racist beliefs. As another example, this week there was an incident at my kids' school involving a photo shared on instagram and dozens and dozens of kids had no problem posting ugly, racist slurs and insults under their own names. They did it because they felt comfortable that the majority of people who would see those words agreed with them.

I read about Briana Brochu just about an hour ago. She is a vile human being.

What.the.hell?

The only way I can see around it is if she were proven mentally unfit. Since they didn't go with that, I don't see how on earth they say it's not a hate crime. The roommate is lucky she hasn't had lasting physical damage - obviously she's been mentally f***ed with, and that will be a whole other mess that she now has to live with and cope with. My only shred of hope is that people are still pursuing the hate crime angle and that the case is continued. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
