My son's first iphone stopped charging after about 8 months. We took it to the apple store (about 1.5 hours away) and they confirmed that it was not charging and replaced it. Now his second one, after less than a year (unfortunately the replacement only had a 90 day warranty), shuts off randomly with no warning. Then he has to do a soft reset to get it to come back on. The first phone actually did this a few times too, but we were always able to get it working again. Are we just unlucky or was there an issue with iphone 5? He's very careful with the phone, has it in a protective case, etc. My daughter has the same phone and as far as I know, no issues. Either she's lucky or he's unlucky.
We had been looking for a good deal on the 6S but now he's so sick of this phone acting up he wants to switch to android so I'm looking at the galaxy s7 for him (same phone I have).
Speaking of apple, the home button on my other daughter's ipod touch stopped working. She is extremely careful with her phone and even wraps a screen cloth around it when she puts it in her purse. I have no idea what happened to make it stop working. Luckily I was able to put a virtual home button on the screen. And in other news, my iPad mini will now only charge using a certain cable and a certain wall plug-in (not the ones that came with it-those don't work on it anymore). It's only a couple of years old and the wall plug-in and cable were never even taken out of the house. I don't think they were ever moved from the first outlet I plugged them into. Other things work with them-just not the ipad mini. When I plug it in using them, it says "not charging".

I'm sorry you're having such bad luck with Apple. We've had Apple products since the 80's. They've always been reliable.
We've had issues with cables/charging because of the use or we've purchased the third party chargers which aren't good for the product. I do know the older the product is it doesn't take updates well at all. The older products can't understand or read the newer technology. We have an original iPad that is working well. We still use it. It's working because I haven't done any updates on it in years. So it still has the older brain working.
For your dd don't worry about the iTouch. She has her phone so the iTouch wouldn't be something that she "needs".
Have you done a "reset" on your iPad? Do you have an Apple charger for your iPad? Try that if you can. It could be that there is something in the plug hole of your iPad. I say that as my dh had trouble with his iPod. He couldn't get it to charge. I looked at it and it wouldn't charge because the plug wouldn't go all the way into the hole. Well, he had some how gotten a fuzzy into the hole. We got the fuzzy out and it's fine now. He doesn't have an iPhone so he was glad that we were able to fix the iPod.
I have no experience with android phones.

My DD loves her Samsung phone. She's on her 3rd one (upgrades not because it died or was broken). Each has held up to being dropped ( by accident) numerous times and used for photos, Internet, alarm clock, and phone. I think I only had to replace one bad power cord for her. My DH and I are iPhone users. Our phone plan works fine with Android and Apple phones.

I had problems with my 5S shutting off randomly like that any time the storage was almost full. I would delete some things and it would be fine. I have used both Apple and Android and prefer Apple. The OS seems to be more stable and I have fewer glitches.

I just replaced my Samsung S4 with S8+ about 2 weeks ago only because we found a great deal. I love it. Loved the old Samsung too. DH is on his 2nd iphone that has had to be replaced because of battery not charging. I think he is going to switch as well. Same issue for a guy at work - 2 iphones not charging.

I was using the apple brand charger that came with it but it stopped working after maybe a year or less. I never take my ipad out of the house and mainly only look at it for an hour or so at bedtime and an hour or two when I first wake up. It charges fine using my belkin wall plug in and a third party cable. I'll check the hole though. eta: I was just told my older dd's iphone also shuts itself off sometimes.

My ds' first iPhone was a piece of garbage. The Apple store is fairly close to us, but you can't go there and be assisted in under two hours. He still wanted an iPhone when it came time to replace the first one, and this one seems to be better. Dh and I still have our galaxy s5' s and have never had any issues with them. I want an s7, but there are other things that need to come first!

Have you considered getting your dd a phone? I'd do that, unless she is really young, before I'd replace the iTouch. Why? Because everything will be on her phone plus she'd be able to contact you.
I had an iPhone 5 and went to a 7 last year. My 5 wasn't keeping the charge real well. I rarely use data so that wasn't the issue. It's brain was old. If she continues to do updates it is going to drag it down even more because it's old.
Cables/chargers.....I figured out the issue with them when I was stuck in a recliner recovering from surgery. Our dd eats cables for chargers like appetizers so when I figured it out I showed her what she is doing. So....here it is......she'd plug in her phone and turn it front side down. To look at it she'd pick it up and turn it over. When she was done, the phone went upside-down again.......this process, which is natural, she did over and over and over again. Well, what that does is breaks the wires inside of the cable on the charger. The wires are thin, they wear with the flipping of the phone or iPad.
So, now she doesn't flip her phone over. The cables/chargers last longer.
Your iPad....do you ever turn it off? Even computers need to be turned off or at least restarted once in awhile. It enables them to work better.
Technology is hard to deal with. The hardware, actual phone, iPad, touch, etc may look good and be in great shape. However, the brains are regularly updated with the latest that is out there. That's what society demands. They want things better, more efficient, more useful. So, the companies have gone to that. Now, we as consumers have to figure out what our balance is going to be.
Our balance with the original iPad is not to update. If I did the thing would become a brick instantly. Old brains, even only a couple years old do not have the capability to read things that are done in the future they can't mind read.

I'll probably get her a phone before too long but she's fine right now using the virtual button. I probably don't reboot my ipad as much as i should. I'll try that.

One thing to try if your iPhone won't charge: take a pin or needle and get in there as clean out the charger port. You'd be amazed how much fuzz can get in there and prevent a good connection. Really dig around and keep at it until the lint comes out. If it's not charging, you don't have anything to lose by digging around in there.
I "fixed" DH ad DS iPhones that way. Men are more prone to having this happen because they tend to stick their phones in their linty pockets rather than a purse.

I've had my Samsung s5 for over three years and am still on the original charger, as are dh and my mom. You can charge the Samsung and turn the phone over all you want with no problems whatsoever.

Yes, I've never had a micro USB cable go bad. I've replaced every apple cable we've ever had. Right now we're all using third party cables.
