My youngish (ok he's 24) cousin posted a photo with his girlfriend yesterday, gushing about how much he loved her, and the wedding was great! I thought it a bit odd she was in a red dress, clutching a beautiful bouquet, but I love a good elopement story, so I wished them congratulations!!
Never occurred to me she was a bridesmaid (hello red dress) and they had fun at her BFFs wedding!! I am an idiot, and nearly caused a Facebook riot and my aunt had to wade in to clean things up!
Crawling under an online rock to hide now!

People get married in all sorts of colors these days. With the post gushing about her I would have probably made the same mistake!

That's funny! I think it's funny, but apparently all the irate "I wasn't invited", "I wasn't notified" folks didn't think so. Or the aunt who tearsely cleared it up! lol. In my further defense they posted pics of the house they are having built the day before, so it wouldn't be crazy!

Red dresses must have that effect.
My mother went to the wedding of one of her middle aged friends and had met the bride several times before the wedding. My mom was thinking (in her head) that the bride and her sister, the bridesmaid, were two very plain women but that they looked really pretty all gussied up. The sister of the bride was a bridesmaid and was wearing a red dress and my mom kept saying to everyone at their table that both women just looked lovely.
When my mom went through the reception line she told the girl in the red dress that she looked just like she was ready for Halloween. She meant Valentines Day which was in a week or so. When she realized what she had said she quickly said, I mean you look like a valentine, but the damage was done. My mom started nervous laughing which just made it worse.
I don't think she ever lived it down as that story was told over and over and over again by all of my mom's friends.

I once asked a coworker if he would be useful instead of helpful.

I think it would have been really awkward if the wedding they attended was their first date and you mistakenly thought it was their wedding. However, since they are clearly pretty serious about each other, I think it is funny.

I got married in a pink dress second time around. I probably would have assumed the same thing.

I feel the onus is on your cousin for a very poorly written post. How hard would it have been to write ...The wedding we attended was wonderful...

A male friend of mine who moved to another city posted a wedding photo online, it was him in a tux, a woman in a wedding dress and parents. I almost wrote congratulations. Then I started scrolling through his page and realized it was his sister that got married and they just took a family photo together with their parents. lol

My SIL's photo Christmas card last year had a picture of family member at whatever event, my nephew's picture was at a wedding. If I hadn't known he hadn't gotten married, I'd have sure thought he did by looking at the card!

In September, I attended a wedding where the bride wore a red dress. A red dress more appropriate for a bordello, I might add. From her posture and said red dress, most of her wedding pictures look like a boudoir photo shoot. I say all that to say it isn't all that farfetched to assume the woman in red was the bride! LOL

I got married in a bright yellow dress. My sister wore a red wedding dress. I would have probably thought she was the bride, too.

In Chinese culture red is worn for weddings and white for funerals.

Our friends got married and she hates white, so she had a beautiful purple dress custom made. It was a wedding gown just purple. It was gorgeous and she totally rocked it. Her wedding party was all in a darker shade of purple. It sounds hideous but it was really beautiful.

I privately messaged someone to wish her luck on Facebook after several posts about what sounded like an impending divorce, "don't not communicate it will ruin your relationship," "the damage is done" "I'm finally going to get some after 10 years"etc etc etc. She never responded, took down the post and it sounds from recent posts that she is still married... I guess she changed her mind? Facebook needs to come with a "if you post this message/photo/video you are required to explain in great detail what the heck you are talking about
