I hate sweeping my hardwoods and they always seem dirty! I have a hardwood vac that does a better job than sweeping, but I still have to run it, lol. I'm wondering what the experiences have been with Roomba and if it's worth all the money.
Does it go around things well? I have hardwood in my kitchen so there's a big island in the middle, will it navigate around well and down the hallway well? I figure if it does a good job, it'd be worth the investment, but am leery to spend so much money not knowing.

I love mine and yes it gets around things well. I still use my regular vacuum but the roomba for in between or when I just don’t get to the regular vacuuming. I was surprised how well it worked.

I don't find mine to be a substitute for the big vac, but its nice for day to day maintenance in between deep cleans. I like it, would buy another.

I received one as a gift & promptly returned it, unopened, for store credit after learning its square footage limitations. Both our first floor & partial second story are hardwoods (except tile in the laundry & full bathrooms) & larger than the machine's programming can handle, per the company's customer service representative. Plus, a couple friends, who use it only in common areas on their first floors since their bedrooms & bonus spaces are carpeted & laundry & baths are tile, complain its round body is ineffective on dust-prone corners. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me.

I finally got one about six months ago after having wanted one for several years.
I really like it; we have a yellow lab that forever sheds.
I run it probably 4-5 days per week. It does take a long time to go through the house. Since our kids are out, one hallway/2 bedrooms and bath don't get much use so I put the virtual wall up there and it cuts off probably 2 hours each time. But it does take about 6-8 hours to do the house- about 1.5 hours on then 1 hour recharge, repeat, repeat.
One thing that it does not do a great job at is getting dog fur off our area rugs. I need to use the regular vacuum on those about once per week (but usually let it go longer, yeah I'm lazy).
I think it does a great job on the rest of the house which is tile.
Since it is round, it can't get into the corners--where lots of doggie fur would accumulate--but if you keep up with it, the fur never makes it to the corner and gets sucked up by the Roomba.
The storage container is pretty small; I need to empty it each 1.5 hour session.
It's still a lot better than dragging around the regular vacuum.

Most people love theirs, and I also think they likely have progressed in recent years. I had one (bought around 2010), and I ended up selling it because it just didn't suit my needs.
The biggest thing was it closed doors. My cat would follow it around, then Roomba would close a bedroom door and the cat would be trapped in the room with the vacuum. Because of that, I only wanted to run it when I was home (no big deal, I work from home), but it was noisy while I was working and it runs for quite awhile. So it just was irritating to me to have it running while I was home. I'd rather run the big vacuum myself for 15 minutes than have the Roomba running for 90 minutes.
If it wasn't for the cat trapping issue, I probably would have liked it more, but then -- I probably wouldn't have needed it as much either without the cat fur. Also, I found it needed to be emptied out every time, and that was a hassle of getting it from it's base every day, flipping it over, etc. The newer ones are probably a lot easier to empty where you don't have to pick up the whole unit and make an ordeal of it.

Also, if you're a Costco member, maybe see what they have? Their return policy is so good, it makes buying it really risk-free.

Shark has a robotic vac now. I don't know how new it is but I just heard about it. It's cheaper than the roomba and Shark generally has pretty good reviews. I want one but I feel lazy asking for one. lol

The Roomba was my Christmas gift last year from DH and I love it. We have both hardwood and carpeted rooms and it does a great job on both. Best gift ever!!!!
