I don't normally read mystery books. I have never read anything by Agatha Christie.
I picked up Murder on the Orient Express because I had a B&N coupon for a mystery book and the movie is out now.
I won't be lost reading this, will I? I saw that it was book #10 in the series when I added it to my GoodReads.

I don't think so. I have not read the book, but saw the movie that came out in the 70s.

I love Agatha Christie, and no, I don’t think that you will be lost.

They are pretty stand-alone.

Lost how? Agatha Christie's books aren't a series, if that's what you mean. Many of them have the same detective -- Hercule Poirot in this case, or my favorite Miss Marple -- but they don't relate to each other at all except to have the same main character.

I have it in my TBR pile, I've only read one other Christie.

I shan't say anything critical about that book, but do update when you've finished and let us know what you thought? THEN I'll have some critical comments.

From memory (it’s been a while) Agatha Christie writes fairly straightforward mysteries. I don’t mean predictable necessarily but the solutions tend to be easy to follow in an ‘oh of course!’ kind of way. And all of them are stand alone as previously mentioned, maybe a comment about meeting someone previously but nothing important to the plot.

No, you won't be lost. It is not my favorite Christie book. And Then There Were None was the best!! (for me anyway!)

I loved Agatha Christie in high school. I read most of her books back then. Each is a stand alone. You will be fine just picking up whichever you want to read. Murder on the Orient Express was one of my favorites. I need to reread and then go see the movie!

I kept a sticky note on the page in the front of the book where it listed and described all the characters so i could keep them straight.

I read it when I was in middle school. And I’m kind of glad I didn’t read it again before seeing the movie like I usually do. I had totally forgotten who the murderer was, so the movie yesterday was kind of all new to me. Great movie by the way!! Branagh was excellent as Poirot! Great cast all around.

Our local library does a winter reading challenge. Each year has a theme and this year's theme is Mysteries. I've got this one on my list to attempt during the challenge period.

I read almost exclusively mysteries, and read MOOE first in high school. Agatha Christie doesn't really write "series", just books about recurring characters, so you can start anywhere. My book club just read the book and we are going to the movie next week--I'm so nervous! My heart can't take another book ruined by making it into a movie or tv show! I like Kenneth Branagh, but I'm quite worried about his non-egg-shaped head portrayal of Poirot ...

Love, love Dame Agatha! Like others on this thread, I read all of her books while in high school. Probably wouldn't hurt to pick them up again.

Glad to hear you liked it.
