I have a bunch of Zing AC powders that I got from TM 3-4 years ago. Some of them don't appear to be smooth as they should be and my white is no longer white (or maybe it never was a true white) I've started using more HA powders and trying to figure out if it's a quality or age that is causing the difference in embossed looks.

Personally I don't think so. I have some really old powder that still works fine. I have some newer that doesn't work too well and I always have to double emboss it. I think a lot depends on the brand. Here is a recent thread from the General SB board Embossing Powder thread
ETA I use HA, SU!, Tim Hotlz/Ranger and SSS. My SU! is the oldest (from the late 90's) and it still works fine.

I noticed my AC white is not a true white either.
