There are many reasons Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 presidential election, but a lack of support from black women isn’t one of them.
According to exit polls, more than 90 percent of black women voted for Clinton, continuing the trend that few demographic groups are as faithful to the Democratic Party as African American women.
But after the 2016 election, the demographic’s confidence in the Democratic National Committee wasn’t as high as the party began focusing their attention on courting white working class voters.
The Washington Post’s Vanessa Williams previously reported:
“Black women have been the most loyal supporters of the Democratic Party, through thick and thin,” Avis Jones-DeWeever, an adviser to the Black Women’s Roundtable, said during September’s Congressional Black Caucus conference. She said the party has focused more on wooing back “white male voters who have not supported the Democratic Party for 50 years” rather than “watering the garden in your own back yard.”
And just days before Tuesday’s election, bombshell accusations in a new book by former DNC chair Donna Brazile seemed to reinforce these sentiments for some voters.

Olan I think I remember reading after the election that black voters did not turn out in the same numbers for Clinton as they did for Obama. If this is the case, then maybe black support in general was down for Hillary even if 90+% of them do support Democrats in general. Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I have no idea where I read that so I can't quote anything. I'm just throwing it out there for the purposes of discussion.

Black votership did take a dip but I don't think it was among black female voters. I voted for Obama and then begrudgingly voted for Clinton though I had no hopes she would do anything substantial for black voters. Her super predator comments "trump" whatever condiments she may or may not have in her bag The article mentioned not only black female voters but black women inside the Democratic Party. Seen on social media:
If black people had voted 68%. for a pedophile the media would have spent all day questioning the moral character of black families and communities.
I feel like I must mention I paraphrased the above because....well you know.

Oh my goodness... do we ever. Not enough gratitude in the world for the WOC from Alabama who fought past disenfranchisement and gerrymandering and the rest of it to cast their votes for Doug Jones yesterday.
I am more convinced than everything good in this country was.. and continues to be... built on the backs of black women.

Conversely, I read that a slightly larger percentage of registered black women voters showed up yesterday than they did for Obama in 2012. Thought that was pretty awesome.

I feel like I must mention I paraphrased the above because....well you know. OMG, the media would have had a field day with this statistic if it were true. The shitty part is that 48.4% of the Alabama voters voted FOR a RACIST HOMOPHOBIC WOMAN HATING PEDOPHILE who had the support of the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED FUCKING STATES!!!!!!!!! I shouldn't be surprised that this is not getting more national coverage but honestly, I am. My faith in people being moral upstanding citizens is at an all time low. And back to the OP, HELL YEAH it was the black female voters who saved this country's ass last night! Nobody should ever forget that! Charles Barkley called into CNN late last night and for the first time, I agreed with EVERYTHING he said. If anyone can link that clip that would be awesome. Democrats AND republicans need to pull their heads out of their asses and start supporting the black community FOR REAL and not just during an election. Sorry for yelling but as happy as I was with the outcome of the vote last night, I'm so incredibly angry that it was even close.

Absolutely. And Black men, too.
I hope that Black voters in Alabama continue to mobilize and win elections, though it will be very hard. Much like Texas, the voting districts in Alabama have been gerrymandered to ensure that poor and minority voters are left with very little power.

Twitter thanks #BlackWomen for voting for Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama Senate electionMary Bowerman, USA TODAY Network Published 8:00 a.m. ET Dec. 13, 2017 | Updated 2:51 p.m. ET Dec. 13, 2017
Democrat Doug Jones sailed to victory Tuesday in Alabama with the help of black voters, according to exit polls. According to CNN exit polls, Jones defeated Roy Moore with the help of nearly unanimous support from black voters, with 96% of black voters supporting the democratic candidate. On Twitter, the hashtag #BlackWomen began trending early Wednesday as people noted that CNN exit polls showed 98% of black women voters supported Jones. According to the exit polls, 17% of voters in the election were black women, and 98% of them voted for Jones. The exit polls found that 31% of voters were white women, and only 34% of them voted for Jones, while 63% voted for Moore. Many people used the hashtag #BlackWomen to voice support for Jones and note that Democrats need to step up their support for minorities. I am more convinced than everything good in this country was.. and continues to be... built on the backs of black women. Which is why we need to run for public office and avoid becoming everyone else's savior. Especially since the other group of people who need the most saving routinely vote against themselves at every turn.
