Lena Apologizes"Lena Dunham is apologizing big time. But will it be enough? The creator and star of HBO's Girls regrets having weighed in on a case involving her friend and series writer Murray Miller, who is accused of sexual assault. After actress Aurora Perrineau on Friday went to police to accuse Miller of committing sexual assault in 2012, Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner issued a statement Friday in support of Miller. Their original statement referred to the current wave of reports of sexual assault and misconduct in Hollywood and praises women for speaking out about their experiences. Then Dunham and Konner cast doubt on accusations made by Perrineau, the daughter of actor Harold Perrineau (Lost, Claws), against their colleague. It read: "But during every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets. We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller. While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3% of assault cases that are misreported every year." The statement concluded: "We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue." But by Saturday evening, Dunham was expressing regret: About the timing of the statement of support. The star, an activist who is often outspoken on social media about women's issues, posted a message of apology on Twitter. "I naively believed it was important to share my perspective on my friend's situation as it has transpired behind the scenes over the last few months. I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry,” Dunham continued: “We have been given the gift of powerful voices and by speaking out we were putting our thumb on the scale and it was wrong. We regret this decision with every fiber to our being." The message concluded: "“Every woman who comes forward deserves to be heard, fully and completely, and our relationship to the accused should not be part of the calculation anyone makes when examining her case. ... We apologize to any woman who have been disappointed.” I posted this study earlier this year. Long read about jezebel narratives and the struggles women of color have in reporting sexual abuse.

I don’t really pay much attention to Lena Dunham as I think she’s very over rated. But she has a history of making very uninformed public statements on Twitter then having to apologise. She did it to that poor athlete who sat next to her at a dinner and didn’t talk to her much. She blamed it on her being not attractive enough for him!! As for this case, she and her friend Jenni Connor (who is around40) should have kept their traps shut.

She’s an idiot. A self-absorbed, shortsighted idiot.

I know she has a history of being controversial, but this was something else. How can she possibly believe herself to be a feminist? This directly contradicts everything she claims to stand for.

I will forever be creeped out by what she said she did to her sister at a young age. I can't understand how that is something a normal child would do.

She is a talentless lump who must employ the best publicist in the world because her name is always in the news.
This is the same person who joked about sexually abusing her little sister. I think she's a hypocrite, an opportunist, a liar, and I cannot understand why she has a career.
Her "art" is a bunch of self aggrandizing navel gazing. I wish she would go the fuck away.

While I did watch the show Girls (sometimes it was a hate watch, TBH), I find her tiresome, privileged, and entirely too concerned with her own voice. She’s pretty much up there with Gwyneth Paltrow for me now; I’m just waiting for her to start giving health advice.
She handled this situation extremely poorly, and I’m sad to say that I’m not surprised. She’s always concerned with her own hot takes and tends not to listen.
If I’m gonna give my attention and my money to a Lena, it’ll be the awesomely talented Lena Waithe.

I love Lena Waithe as well but they don't have the same reach. And with "reach" comes responsibility. This is exactly what white feminism looks like. Did you know of all 50ish+ women who accused Harvey Weinstein he's only made it a point to refute Lupita's account? I don’t really pay much attention to Lena Dunham as I think she’s very over rated. Some black friend had to make that connection for her because I don't believe she made it herself. Racism is so often incited by white male insecurity so white women who claim to be progressive or liberal are doing black folks no favors by this constant need to over-sexualize black men. Meanwhile Blake Shelton is America's Sexiest man *bangs heads* Long Violent History of White Women Lying

She is certainly a hot mess. The more she speaks, the more she tells us all exactly who she is. And feminist is certainly not it. I hope we can all be done with her and her ego.

White women should speak out more, especially on behalf of women of color. I did know about the Weinstein/Nyong'o thing. It doesn't surprise me, because... white men gonna white men. I would agree that there is some problematic white feminism out there for sure. And women who already have the agency and the reach should be uplifting and supporting those who do not yet (or never will).

I know she has a history of being controversial, but this was something else. How can she possibly believe herself to be a feminist? This directly contradicts everything she claims to stand for. Because this is what she was taught with head feminist Gloria Steinem leading the way. She was shown you can ignore the clear pattern of behavior and defend the abusers you like while giving the message the only sexual assault victims that deserve to be heard are the ones that accuse your political enemies, not the ones that accuse your friends or those you support.

Are you the mother of a son? Have you had a conversation with him about consent?
