Went to the fridge this morning and noticed the door was slightly ajar. Opened it up to see a can of biscuits had exploded open and the internal temp was 51 degrees. The culprit appears to be the cheese drawer. It wasn't closed all the way, which kept the fridge from closing. I heard dd getting a snack last night after I went to bed...I am assuming it happened then.
Feeling grateful I really hadn't started shopping for Thanksgiving yet. The fresh fruits and veggies all seem fine.
I am tossing leftovers, opened bottles of dressing (mine are yogurt based), chicken broth, lunch meat, seafood, hummus and mayo. I had a brand new container of cilantro lime shrimp from Costco in there...that was a painful toss.
What about things like Dijon mustard, pickles, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce? Would you keep or toss? How about cheese?

Cheese is fine. We refrigerate it to slow mold growth, not to keep it from spoiling. The whole point of cheese is that it doesn't "spoil." Mustard, soy sauce, pickles should be absolutely fine. (Heck, I store my soy sauce in the cupboard full time. Your soy sauce is more than fine. Teriyaki sauce is probably ok, because of the sugar and soy sauce content, but I'm not 100% sure on it.

The sauces you named I'd keep. They have so much salt/sugar in them that they should be fine. The cheese I'd probably keep, but check for mold before I cut into it. I feel your pain at throwing away so much. When we were out of town last spring break, our freezer died. We didn't realize it for another week after returning. It held all our meat. We get 1/4 a cow and had about 1/3 of that left.

I'd make my kid pay for the busted can of biscuits and then I'd keep all the rest.

What about things like Dijon mustard, pickles, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce? Would you keep or toss? How about cheese? I would keep these, unless they are years past the expiration date. We came home from vacation and our refrigerator door was cracked open and it was 56 degrees. It probably had been open for at least two days. (I suspect my parents didn't shut it properly when getting out hummingbird food) I used it as a good time to a complete toss and do a good wash down and clean.

LOL! I am making her clean out the food that should be tossed and do a wipe down of the fridge. That's probably worth more than the biscuits.

I wouldn’t toss anything that didn’t show actual evidence of having gone bad. Well, okay. When it happened to me (and that was both French doors left wide open overnight), I tossed the milk and replaced it. Other than that, something had to smell bad or look moldy to get tossed. I might make an exception for shrimp but if it was still cold, I’d be okay with it.

That totally sucks,
but I'm here to tell you that your new profile pic is BEAUTIFUL and for days I have been confused, are you a new pea? I had to look up your past posts and wow, what a nice update. Your old pic was up forever like mine.
You have really lost weight and just really, shine up all pretty!

I’d toss everything in the fridge except the fruits and vegetables. I always weigh the cost of the food versus the cost of food poisoning. I have no desire to spend a minute on vomiting and diarrhea if I can avoid it. Somehow the food always loses. I tend to err on the side of caution.

If we got the snack last night and you found it this morning, then the food probabmy front have time to go above 40 degrees for 4 hours.
Ibeouldnt toss anything except the seafood because I dislike seafood.

I would probably toss the shrimp. Nothing else though. I keep my soy sauce in the cabinet all the time.

I would only toss the shrimp.
ETA a lot of the sauces you mentioned I keep in the pantry rather than the fridge and they're fine.

Thanks guys...sauces and mustards are staying!
Other stuff had already been tossed...I'm in the better safe than sorry camp. Luckily most of the stuff was fruits/veggies and I did keep all of those.
And thank you Yvonne, you just made my day! Yes...my old photo was from 2011 and it was time for an update! Been working Weight Watchers (and eating all those fruits and veggies in my fridge). :-)

That was the only bright side to our week-long power outage a few years ago. My refrigerator has never been so clean.

That alarm thing on my fridge is so annoying when it goes off if the door has been open too long, but appreciated when it actually gets left open by accident.
I wouldn't toss much, the biscuits, the shrimp, that's probably it.
It's pretty much winter now in the Pacific Northwest, our heat goes down at night, that's the story I'd be sticking with.

Ours is supposed to beep if you leave the door open too. But, it is as the beeping in the morning, so I wonder if it either only beeps for awhile or if the beep feature is no longer working. We were all in our bedrooms, so I don’t think we would have heard it.
Dd was super apologetic. She’s even volunteered to clean the kitchen today (she’s off from school).
