My coworker, Sophie, is being super annoying today. Our furnaces and hot water heater are being replaced. Every single time one of the workmen goes inside, outside, in the backyard, down the basement, or to the attic, she barks at them. They've been here for almost two days and she won't shut up! There are at least six people working in here. Ok, I work at home, and Sophie is the dog. But still, I'm sick of all the barking while I'm trying to work! If I finish up what I'm trying to do, I'm going to take tomorrow off to enjoy the kids coming home. is there a doggy day care near you?

I am really sick of the 20-somethings who have been a nurse for all of 20 minutes thinking they DESERVE a day shift schedule. Better yet, a day shift schedule with no weekends. They think seniority is unfair. They run to HR to tattle about every single perceived injustice like HR is their freaking mother. I get it. They grew up in the generation who got trophies and ribbons and pats on the head for standing upright and breathing at the same time. Get over yourself. No one but your parents think the world revolves around you. And along that line, they often take mommy or daddy to HR with them to whine. I really wish I was old enough to retire. dh is having the opposite problem. He has older rns that feel like they should automatically get a promotions or become a leader when they have bad attitudes, don't work as hard, and are not doing their pd.

I don't have a work vent, but I do have a school vent: APA style. I have the style guide, I have the publishing guide, and I have the Purdue OWL site and APA blog bookmarked. So why do I continually mess up every single time? Some piddling thing, like neglecting to change a hyperlink from the automatic blue to black font. Neglecting to cite a movie reference, when the whole paper is just a review of the movie so where do I even cite it? Throughout the entire paper? Things like this wake me up at 0430 in a cold sweat, unable to get back to sleep. My last two papers got a 91 and a 95. All the points I lost were APA errors. Fuck them people. Yeah, I hate APA too.

I can tell you what I say when this occurs. I tell them I am not able to discuss an employee situation with anyone. Period. I had to fire someone recently because said person brought a can of beer to work in their lunch cooler. When I was questioning the employee about the situation, person admitted it was theirs, person stated brought it to work because "sometimes ... gets a headache" and then "drinks it real fast". We are a drug-free workplace and alcohol is explicitly part of that policy. Person also admitted it had happened more than once. Also already had a history of other issues. So yes, employment ended. Mother came into our lobby about a week later, ranting at the top of her lungs. We would not discuss the employment situation with her. Period. She called my office several times, yelling at me when I would not discuss it with her. The kicker? The employee must have been 40. Years old. Seriously.

I wish I'd complained before the workmen were here! That's a great idea, she loves playing with the dogs.

Yeah for vacation days as I'm off all this week for the holiday. My biggest gripe is the loud chewer who sits outside my office - while I'm having a conversation either on the phone or with someone sitting in my office she will interject with a comment or the answer if she thinks she knows it! Just Stop! Pay attention to your own business! I get it - she needs validation, to feel like she belongs but just don't do it regarding my business!

I have a coworker/friend that nobody likes (she's earned the dislike, but has calmed down over the years and is still paying for her bad attitude from years ago - we get along well because I call her on her shit and she respects that and I really like her). I don't play the office politics bs, I just do my damnedest to get along with everyone here. Anyway, another coworker recently passed on a couple tops to me that didn't fit her right, she mentioned at the time that she used to give her unwanted clothes to Bad Attitude Friend (BAF). Today, she comes to me and says "next time I give you clothes, I want you to tell BAF about it and tell me what she says" I just kindof looked at her. She goes on to "Well, I don't really care about all that anymore, but..." to which I just cocked an eyebrow. She went on a little bit flustered and mumbling but basically said never mind. It was great, I never said a single word - I swear I credit the peas with the ability to "say" so much while saying so little. Some things really DON'T require a verbal response. I would go naked before wearing those tops to work. Same. People are just something else.

I am seriously like WTF? Do you think this is your conversation?

I'm waiting on guidance from my academic coach, who took points off last week for not changing the font on the headings on the template we were ordered to use. WTF? Make the template the way you want it to start with then. That felt sneaky.

The template they gave was horrible, clearly designed by someone who didn't know how to use Word. There's a special place in hell for templates that use spaces instead of tabs. It conflicted with the instructions and APA in so many places. I couldn't believe how much time it took me, and I didn't even write it!

how about lazy co workers? We were doing a medical procedure that involved a 15 delay, while the patient just laid there. I asked my coworker if she wanted to go to lunch. She said she would finish the procedure. I asked her if she was just going to sit there for 15 minutes. She said yes. I said are you kidding me and she sat there for 15 minutes and then went to lunch.
