My BFF and my sister hosted a shower for my DIL. It was at my house since they both live out of town and the majority of the guests live near me. I had helped plan it and luckily had Friday, the day before the shower, off as it was Veterans Day. So I spent most of Thursday evening and all day Friday cleaning, decorating and preparing the house for the shower.
The kicker? I couldn’t attend. I came down with the shingles earlier in the week and wasn’t allowed to attend. My doctor said it was fine to host the shower but I couldn’t be there. My sweet niece FaceTimed the shower to me. I was actually in the house but I stayed closed up in my bedroom prior to and during the shower.
A couple of brave soles popped their heads in to say hello or goodbye but primarily I laid in bed and watched most of the shower. Seems I dozed off though which they found hilarious. In my defense, I was tired and sick people! 😄

That stinks! I have only heard miserable things about having shingles. I hope you are feeling better.

I face timed into my own baby shower... from the hospital. It was awful, but now kind of something I can laugh about. 🙂

Aww, that's kind of sucky. But the grandbaby will have a great story of their baby shower and I'm sure your DIL appreciates you!

That's sucky timing. My mom had shingles while I was pregnant, but luckily it was at about the mid-point of my pregnancy so she didn't miss anything. How gracious of you to still host when you couldn't be there.

Thanks everyone. I feel great. I had a very mild case. No real pain, some burning and itching but, for the most part, nothing I couldn’t ignore. The ironic part was that I had planned to get a shingles vaccine but I had the flu shot then waited two weeks to get the whooping cough vaccine. I had to get that because of the new baby. I decided to wait a couple of weeks to get the shingles vaccine because I didn’t want them both at the same time. I got the shingles the next week. I will be getting the vaccine after I see my doc again.
I went over my DS & DIL’s House Monday night and they showed me all the handmade gifts they got at the shower. That was funny. I also got a nursery preview. We laughed about how I’d been to two of her showers before the one I hosted. Her Mom and her Step-Mother’s families each hosted one. I had a great time at those. I also have to say before I woke from my nap my sister and BFF had my house straightened and put back in order. It’s nice to have kind people in my life.
