Which one and why? I’m having a hard time deciding and it’s making my head hurt.

I think it depends on how much you plan to use it and what you normally use it for. My choice was the Artisan since I am an infrequent baker, and we have a small family. I also prefer the tilt head to the lift models. If I did larger quantities, or baked on a regular basis (multiple times per week), then I would have considered the Pro.

I have the Artisan and LOVE it. I have made some thick cookie doughs in it and it never struggled. I prefer the tilt head over the lift bowl and that it is not as tall. The pro would fit under my cabinets but it is heavier to move.
If I baked every week, or a few times a week I would go with the pro. But I use my mixer a few times a month and so for me it fits my needs.

I would recommend the pro. It has a bigger motor if you do larger batches of cookies or bread. Even with the pro, I’ve been worried about the motor with bigger batches

The Artisan. Unless you plan to use it a lot.

Coming from somebody who owns 3 and uses them commercially:
I have the Artisan tilt head 4.5, a Pro lift-bowl 5qt, and a 7qt Pro.
I prefer the lift bowl. I find the tilt head bounces more (particularly with heavier loads like gumpaste or royal icing or in a home case, bread dough) and eventually the lock pin bounces loose like mine did last week.
The 5 qt is a great size, and I use my 7qt weekly for large batches of buttercream.
I'm looking to get one for my upstairs "home" kitchen, and have my eye on a lift bowl 6qt if I can find one in the right colour!

Buy the best one you can afford ... I have a Pro bowl lift and I love it even though I use it very infrequently

I have the artisan & like the others I don't use it a huge amount, maybe once or twice a month (more in winter than summer) - I like the tilt head & that its shorter to fit under my cupboards
oh and i have an extra bowl too - highly recommend!

I have the Artisan Design, tilt head. I'm an infrequent user and not one who would be mixing large amounts at one time.
Honestly, the color was one of the deciding factors. I wanted red, but didn't really like the Empire Red that's standard; when they came out with the Artisan Design in a candy apple metallic red, I knew that's the one I wanted. So I'm a little shallow because I went for color more than features, but this one does everything I want it to do.

I have the Pro 5 quart and use it infrequently and just kind of got it on impulse right after we were married. It’s served me well.
The only concern I have is that Kitchen Aid's replacement beaters have gotten universally panned from what I can tell—the enamel coated steel chips and the uncounted metal ones start to leave a dark residue in whatever you’re mixing. I just had to buy another aftermarket replacement beater after my first aftermarket beater broke off near the area where it attaches to the mixer—it only lasted two years or so and I’m really only a heavy user at the holidays. Kind of annoying.

My Artisan 5qrt has never bounced even when I have made a triple batch of Alton Brown's royal icing.

I use my KitchenAid almost daily. It's a refurbished Artisan that I've had over 10 years. I've used the lift bowl model at a previous job and I thought they were annoying and not worth the extra cost. Also, when I bake the most I do is double a recipe so the 5 quart model is plenty of space.

I've had the Artisan with the tilt head for 17 years. I've made double batches of cookies & pizza dough. I've made big batches of buttercream. I've used it to mash potatoes and shred chicken. It has handled everything wonderfully. I didn't want the lift model and had been advised against it by a few friends who had it. I've known people who had the lift and replaced with the tilt but no one that went the other way.

I have the Pro with lift bowl. I bought the beater with the rubber side as well as always use that when mixing cookies dough. I make bread with the dough hook every other day. It has worked well for me. I figured if I was going to spend the money I would go with the more powerful one. I also bought the smaller bowl but don't seem to remember to use it.

I like the lift bowl. I've had mine for 21 years.
I would recommend getting an extra bowl if you have the space. It really makes Christmas baking easier. I also have one of the scrapper blades and love it saves you having yo stop and scrape the bowl.

DH bought me the Pro and I took it back and got an Artisan. I'm so much happier with the tilt head rather than the bowl lift. I have the Empire Red one. Glass and metal bowls.

Which one and why? I’m having a hard time deciding and it’s making my head hurt. I saw this deal linked on a Cyber Monday deal article on USAToday. Looks like the pricing has already started if you go with the Artisan: Artisan mixer deal
I have the kind with the bowl that goes up and down. It's getting close to 20 years old. It isn't what I wanted but it was a gift. If I were buying, I get the kind where the head folds back as a more traditional mixer. I'd also get one with a glass bowl rather than metal.

Whichever is the one that flips up and not the one that has the bowl lift. I hated that one. Seriously the worst.

I have the Artisan. I don't do a lot of baking though, so it more than meets my needs.
If I did a lot, I'd probably get the Professional model.

I think i'm one of the few that doesn't like the scraper paddle. I find that it doesn't mix whats down in the centre of the bowl like my regular paddle does & I always end up with an extra lump of sugar or whatever down there. I'd rather stop & scrape periodically

I have the Artisan and love it. I thought I'd want the one with the bowl lift but it is too much money and doesn't have as many options as the Artisan. More colors available and more bowl styles available.
I use mine a lot, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day, sometimes only 2 or 3 times a week. It is grape purple, I've had it 12 years and have bought it plenty of accessories! 2 small nesting bowls, 1 glass bowl w/cover and one extra large bowl w/cover, 2 extra covers, 2 extra paddle beaters and last month, got the new shredder/slicer attachment even though I do have a KA food processor. I would have bought the ice cream attachment but already had a Cruisinart ice cream maker with extra bowl.
I make yeast bread, pizza crust dough, cakes, cookies, shred chicken, mashed potatoes, whip the ice cream ingredients (make peanut butter ice cream all the time) and make peanut butter filling for my peanut butter chocolate covered balls.
That reminds me, I have some extra egg whites left over from making lemon pie with sweetened condensed milk. I prefer sprinkling a nice layer of extra graham cracker pie crust crumbs on top so I'm going to make a pineapple upside down cake with the egg whites.

I got the Pro 6qt and even though I only use it 2-3 times a year, I'm glad to have it. It will be my daughter's someday, according to her. I have zero regrets.

It's so funny how we each have very individual KitchenAid needs and wants! I specifically wanted a bowl-lift model because I had a definite place where it needed to sit when I used it, and there would have been no room to tilt the head back there. It goes back under my upper cabinets where it sits on the counter, and I pull it out a few inches to use it. So that was the main factor in my choice. I was buying refurbished and I got a Pro 5-quart. So I'd think about where you'll store it, where you'll use it and how often you'll use it, and what you'll use it for.
