There seems to be a very important sentence in this report... I might be wrong, but............ US ambassador resigns, saying he can no longer work with TrumpBy Elise Labott, Zachary Cohen and Jim Sciutto, CNN Updated 2:22 PM ET, Fri January 12, 2018 A State Department spokesperson told CNN that Ambassador John Feeley "has informed the White House, the Department of State and the Government of Panama of his decision to retire for personal reasons, as of March 9 of this year." According to an excerpt of his resignation letter that was read to CNN, Feeley's decision was clearly prompted by differences with the Trump administration but was made well before Thursday's reporting about President Donald Trump's "shithole" comments. "As a junior foreign service officer, I signed an oath to serve faithfully the President and his administration in an apolitical fashion, even when I might not agree with certain policies. My instructors made clear that if I believed I could not do that, I would be honor bound to resign. That time has come," Feeley wrote. The letter goes on to say that he leaves the embassy "in good hands" and the US relationship with Panama is "strong." More at link: www.cnn.com/2018/01/12/politics/us-ambassador-panama-resigns-trump/index.htmlHe signed an OATH to the PRESIDENT and his Administration.. ?!?!?!?!? Is this bordering a LOYALTY Oath? Shouldn't he be loyal to the United States of America and all the citizens?!?!?!?!?

I just did a quick Google search-- this is the oath I came up with for foreign service officers: "“I ________, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
It’s the same oath, in fact, other than stating of the name, that the VP takes...'
Nothing about the president or his administration at all- hopefully the guy just misspoke with the way he worded it.
apparently the MILITARY oath is worded a bit differently, because it includes a bit about obedience to orders:
"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Back when he was a junior foreign service officer. Under another president.

so what he's implying is that now he can't serve in an apolitical fashion, because Trump has started inserting politics front-and-center into foreign diplomacy matters?

the end of the story on CNN:
"Panama will join the dozens of countries that do not currently have Senate-confirmed US ambassadors in place, including key US allies like South Korea, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. While senior acting officials hold the reins in these important jobs, they are not permanent appointees and are limited in how long they can hold the roles.
Federal law allows these temporary officeholders to stay in the open jobs for, at most, 300 days. But 320 days have elapsed since the start of the Trump administration and acting officials in the State Department are starting to hit that limit, making presidential nominations more important than ever."
so because of his incompetence (because he didn't think he'd actually win, or whatever) they've gone for almost a year without ambassadors in some very important places, and I'm guessing it's not a very pressing agenda item compared to screwing the American middle class, or taking his 'executive time' in the residence with his phone.

IIRC his administration is making lots of cuts throughout the state department, not just leaving ambassador posts vacated or unconfirmed.

This is the military oath for enlisted personnel, but officers do not make an oath to obey orders from the president or other officers, only to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

He doesn't learn even one day later! Trump questioned why 'pretty Korean lady' analyst wasn't working on North Korea: reportBY JOHN BOWDEN - 01/12/18 03:10 PM EST President Trump questioned why a career intelligence analyst wasn't leading negotiations with North Korea on behalf of the United States because of her Korean heritage, NBC News reported Friday. Trump, who was meeting with the analyst as part of a briefing on a family being released by militants in Pakistan, waited until the briefing was over before questioning her where she was from. "New York," she replied. Trump pressed on, asking her where her "people" are from. When the analyst responded that her parents were from South Korea, the president reportedly responded by asking a nearby adviser why the "pretty Korean lady" was not negotiating with North Korea's government on behalf of the Trump administration. The analyst, whose name was not released, is reportedly trained in hostage negotiation, not diplomacy. NBC's report comes a day after multiple news outlets reported that Trump referred to Haiti, El Salvador and several African nations as "shithole countries" during a Thursday Oval Office meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform. “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump asked, according to multiple people briefed on the meeting, before going on to question why the U.S. wasn't admitting more immigrants from countries like Norway instead. Trump denied saying “anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country” in a pair of tweets Friday morning, and said that while he used “tough” language in the meeting with lawmakers, “this was not the language used.” The remarks drew criticism from Democrats, Republicans and media figures, many of whom accused the president of racism. thehill.com/homenews/administration/368774-trump-questioned-why-pretty-korean-lady-wasnt-negotiating-for-us-with

OMG, seriously?!? <insert huge eye-rolling-emoji here>
just because she's Korean, she should be negotiating with N. Korea for the US?? This is exactly like when he asked April Ryan (reporter at a WH press conference) if the Congressional Black Caucus members were friends of hers, and asked her to set up a meeting for him. (since she's African American and THEY'RE African American, you know... /s)
eta: "the pretty Korean lady...' ugh!! it's galling!! There's a very good chance she's AMERICAN, Donnie... NOT 'Korean.' It just smacks of Roy Moore's wife saying 'one of our attorneys is a Jew' which objectifies the person.

Today the White House held a conference call with reporters about trump’s decision on the Iran Deal.
Here from CBS is a transcript of the first part of the conference call...
It took the White House 22 minutes to figure out how to enable the "listening only" feature on a conference call on Thursday in which senior administration officials announced that President Trump would continue to waive nuclear program-related sanctions, keeping the deal intact.
"This White House can't even run a f*cking conference call," a reporter on an unmuted phone line angrily exclaimed to the entire call. "They don't know how to mute their line."
"It's the illegitimate media that doesn't know how to conduct themselves. They can't mute their f*cking phones," an unidentified official said. "Mute your phones."
Another White House official repeatedly attempted to quiet the noisy line "so the people in charge" could talk.
"I think if everyone had half a brain and common sense and muted their phones, this wouldn't be a problem," she yelled in an apparent fit of frustration.
"Hello? Hello?," one reporter interjected, some 15 minutes after the slated start of the call. "Has the call started?"
"This is Kim Jong Un calling for Donald Trump," another reporter joked as tensions flared.
"All participants are now in listen-only mode," the operator finally announced, much to the relief of everyone on the call. The call began at 1:07 p.m. “
Add to that the the White House Statement released about trump’s physical. The one signed by the doctor. Rachel decided the statement really wasn’t written by the doctor even though it was “signed” by him. The reason was the man’s first name was misspelled.
So not only is trump a dufus, it would appear so are the people working for him.

oh, I know that-- it's just another thing that shows he has no idea whatsoever about global diplomacy... di·plo·ma·cy
noun 1)the profession, activity, or skill of managing international relations, typically by a country's representatives abroad. 2)the art of dealing with people in a sensitive and effective way. He doesn't even know (either) definition of the word "diplomacy". Not that it matters- he doesn't have a bone or cell in his body that is capable of it (by either definition) anyway.

I swear I think that the destruction that he is doing is purposefully done to satisfy his “debt” to the oligarchs and Russians. Coupled with the GOP doing not one fucking thing about it, it’s showing that they too, are willing to gamble away the USA. By them not standing up to Trumps dangerous rhetoric, his 2000+ lies, his destruction amount our government—he’s showing our “enemies” that we can easily be compromised and taken over.

Hawaii has been testing the nuclear warning system in November and December, given the missile testing being done by North Korea.
They just overrode the main CNN soundtrack, playing the warning, but saying "this is not a drill. Seek immediate shelter". I can only find one news report, the UK's Daily Express, saying little more than I typed here.
Thanks, 45 and Rocket Man. Now they are saying it is a false alarm- on CNN now.
what a wonderful world....

linkWhen trump announced the shrinking the size of two national monuments, he said it was to give the land back to the people. However shortly later a story was released that the head of the largest uranium mine wanted to reduce the size of national lands to make it easier for his uranium mine to function. trump obliged. trump is foremost a businessman and the worst kind of businessman in that his sole goal is to make a buck regardless of the true cost. If you look at just about every decision he has made as president it’s to benefit trump the businessman or his fellow businessmen buddies at the expense of the American People. I think before we trash the country we should ask and get the answer to the following questions. * Is there a real need for these natural resources or is it a want of these natural resources to make money. * Can the country and the people who live in the areas of these natural resources afford the real cost of extracting them from the ground and water. * If it is found the natural resources are needed will best practices be used to minimize the damage now and in the future? To the land/water, The people doing the job, and the people living in the area. I think, in the trump administration, the answer is a firm no. Since trump has been president he has signed legislation that allows coal mines to dumb waste from the mines into the water in the area, rolled back mine safely procedures. In oil industry, trump has eliminated the safety procedures put in place after that huge oil spill in the South and that tax cut bill eliminated the tax oil companies had to pay per barrel of oil that was to go into a fund to clean up huge oil spills like the one in Alaska and the BP spill off the coast of the southern states. And then there is how long it takes to clean up the left behind crap from the ground/water as noted in the New York Times article. In my neck of the woods just north of me is Clear Lake that has a mercury problem from mercury mines that have been closed since the 1950’s. The EPA has been trying to clean up that mess since it was declared a superfund site in the 1990s. From the New York Times... “Uranium Miners Pushed Hard for a Comeback. They Got Their Wish.” “MONUMENT VALLEY, Utah — Garry Holiday grew up among the abandoned mines that dot the Navajo Nation’s red landscape, remnants of a time when uranium helped cement America’s status as a nuclear superpower and fueled its nuclear energy program. It left a toxic legacy. All but a few of the 500 abandoned mines still await cleanup. Mining tainted the local groundwater. Mr. Holiday’s father succumbed to respiratory disease after years of hacking the ore from the earth. But now, emboldened by the Trump administration’s embrace of corporate interests, the uranium mining industry is renewing a push into the areas adjacent to Mr. Holiday’s Navajo Nation home: the Grand Canyon watershed to the west, where a new uranium mine is preparing to open, and the Bears Ears National Monument to the north. The Trump administration is set to shrink Bears Ears by 85 percent next month, potentially opening more than a million acres to mining, drilling and other industrial activity. But even as Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke declared last month that “there is no mine within Bears Ears,” there were more than 300 uranium mining claims inside the monument, according to data from Utah’s Bureau of Land Management office that was reviewed by The New York Times.”
