I started a job in August as a merchandiser. It's been touch and go with me - some days I love it and some days I hate it. I guess that's with any job, right? I think what frustrates me most is the lack of organization with the company and/or communication.
I have 2 stores to cover and last week I was expected to go back and forth to them twice during the day. As in, stop in store #1, then number 2 in the morning, then back to store #1 and back to number 2 in the afternoon. This is just for the holiday service of course.
But when I met with my supervisor Friday she was annoyed that there were certain things I didn't get done. No word of the 80 billion things I DID get done and how happy the store managers were with me, just the things I didn't get done. She honestly is lucky I came in on Friday the way the company had us running around and texting us to get xy and z done.
Also the day of delivery of product I have no idea how much is going to be delivered so I can't plan ahead of time my day. I can show up and it will be 6 hours of work ahead of me or I can show up and have 11 hours of work for me to do. No heads up, no gee put some of that aside for the next day since you got so much in, none of that. Get it all out and leave when you're done. I would appreciate a heads up when I have days like that so I can plan accordingly.
My prime reason for going back to work was saving money for my DD who is a senior, she is off to college and we need the money. But as it stands this job has me so tired I am literally never seeing my DD - or my DS for that matter, but since it's DD last year home I feel sentimental that I am missing her last year home. Ironic that I took the job to save money for her and now I am missing my last year with her.
I guess it's hard going back to work for anyone but I wonder if anyone else does merchandising for stores or works in a retail capacity that can shed some light if this is normal or not. I used to work retail 30 years ago and it was never such a shitshow back then so wondered if this company is just whack or if times have changed that much.
Edited to add: I'm a vendor so not employee of the stores I service, just for the floral company that provides the floral displays/product.
