I am going to a medical spa for an IPL (laser) treatment for some age spots. I had a consultation with a Physician's Assistant at the med spa and she recommended the IPL. I will see a licensed esthetician for the treatment. The med spa is located in a medical surgery building and is headed by a plastic surgeon.
Do I tip for the IPL treatment?

It would not occur to me to tip in this situation.

i wouldn't tip in a medical environment either. it somehow cheapens the service you are getting and the staff providing the service.

While I agree with everyone above, I also worry because she IS an esthetician. I would maybe ask the front-desk people if she normally gets tips? It does feel weird in a medical office. But ... esthetician. sigh

I had laser hair removal on my face and never would I have thought to tip. It's like going to a doctor.

I've been going to med spas for a while now. It's the norm to tip on procedures performed by the estheticians - laser hair removal, IPL, etc. - but not on the procedures preformed by the physicians - Botox, fillers, etc.

I had laser hair removal on my face and never would I have thought to tip. It's like going to a doctor. Maybe dependent on where it is done, a local spa decided to offer laser and had someone come in to do it. When I had it done, I just asked if she accepted tips. She said she did, as the fee went to their office. If in doubt, I just ask if they accept tips, easy enough.

I guess it wouldn't even enter my mind that I would need to tip when I am going based on a medical referral. Now, it will be in the back of mind.

Thank you all for your opinions. I was hoping for a unanimous no tipping vote
