So that it can be worn as a skirt for an ugly Christmas sweater party...the one we have has a pretty small center opening.

Cindy THey do vary but not to the extent of human waist sizes unless you want to cut away some the that inner area. They are small to go around a tree trunk but cover the tree stand. |

I have one that I have made into a quilt. The opening is about 18 inches around.
