What kind of shims do you use for the thin metal dies. I can't get them to cut! I have a thick and less thick platform, a rubber mat, two plastic mats that say sizzlit dies, and two other plastic mats, that are thicker. I should just suck it up and get a big shot machine. I bought this one for $10.00 at a yard sale. p.s. I can never spell the name of that thing right.

I wish I had a picture of what you have. The thicker plastic mats, are they beveled on each end? Is it clear OR frosted? IF it is beveled and frosted, that is NOT the cutting mat. That is the embossing mat.
The sandwich for embossing is the thickest base, the die cutting face up, the paper, the rubber mat and then the beveled/frosted mat.
The way to cut QuicKutz/Lawn Fawn/Spellbinders is: thickest base, the die cutting face up, the paper and a CLEAR NOT beveled mat.
The Big Shot cutting mats and the Zip'eMate mats are EXACTLY the same thickness, the Big Shot cutting mats are just a little wider. I use my Zip'eMate mats with my Big Shot all the time.
IF you have the beveled mat, you CAN get it to cut if you have a piece of thin plastic to put under the bottom of the die. I had to do that one time before I got extra cutting mats and misplaced the real cutting mat.
I'll try to check tomorrow to see if you have more questions. It really is a good machine, just some dies got to wide for it. Until last year when someone gifted me with a Big Shot, making my Big Shot inventory up to TWO, I kept the Zip'eMate loaded for embossing and did my cutting with the Big Shot.

I use scrap pieces of cardstock (several together) as a shim when needed with my ZEM.

Thank you for your responses! I did multiple shims of cardstock and now I think it's the die. The other ones recently bought did fine.
