I've had it for just over 7 yrs. Tonight I went to print. It did two prints okay (not great-I was still tweaking the color) and then it had a yellow streak down one side. The streak got wider and more toward the center so I wouldn't even be able to print a narrower pic (that was going to be my fix). I tried a new cartridge (the one that was in it was only 3 sheets away from being at the end) but it's still doing it so I guess it's the printer itself. And I still had another cartridge and paper pack that hasn't even been opened yet. So now I have to decide if i want another selphy or an epson. I only print pictures once a year (maybe 2 or 3 at most) so I'm afraid the epson will give me problems with printing that seldom. Darnit. Now I have to use walmart to print my christmas card pics.

Sorry about your Selphy! Sometimes I get a small squiggle which is really annoying but not to your level...on another note, can you adjust the color on the Selphy? I've never figured out if you could.

Get the Epson. As a very infrequent user myself, I will tell you that I have NEVER had an issue with it. It prints beautiful photos every time!

Are you able to clean the printer heads? I have an Epson photo printer and I've had to clean the heads before.

Oh bummer!!!!! I will have a small cry when my Selphy dies. It has made me such a prolific scrapper.

I'll google to see if there's a way to clean the heads but I doubt it. It seems pretty sealed up.

I think Santa needs to bring you an Epson.
I know you have been super worried about the printer heads clogging up like the older model, but this newer model doesn't give me that problem. I will go months without printing and it fires up just fine and prints perfectly every time.

I have both the Selphy and the Epson charm. I'm a box and a half away from finishing up my ink/paper. I don't plan to buy anymore and will sell the Selphy. I love my Charm more! I don't use it all the time either. But every time I do it prints right every time. Pictures are gorgeous compared to the Selpy. Currently I'm using the Selphy for a project that I don't care too much about the quality of the prints. If I had to buy a new one I'd go for the new Epson printer. It's pricey but you can also print 5x7.

The same thing happened to mine. After much angst and research both from the peas and online, I did get an Epson Picturemate. It makes amazing prints and will do 5x7 photos, also. I hadn't used it in several months the other day and I did need to clean the heads, but it printed beautifully after that. As of now, I don't regret my purchase of the Picturemate.

If you only print once a year, why do you have a home printer at all?
In my mind the only reason to have a printer is if you are printing one or two pictures very regularly. Otherwise the costs would never balance out.

Otherwise the costs would never balance out. I live out in the sticks. When I bought it I did some scrapping (and always tell myself I will again) and didn't want to drive 30 minutes every time I needed pics. Also dh sells equipment during the year and always wants prints of what he's selling to keep handy. That's what it's used for the other 1-2 times a year. LOL Also I never had much luck with the local print services but the ones I picked up at Walmart today were fine.

Those little printers have a decent life span, that seems close to my limit on regular size inkjets. I don't think I'd give up on a printer brand that lasted that long.
I'm interested in the Epson, just because it can print the larger size. Are the prints water resistant like the selphy?

I know the new epsons are better than they used to be but my old ones lasted a couple of years. The first one had an extended warranty and was replaced under that. The replacement only had a year warranty and didn't last much longer than that.

My Selphy is doing the same thing. I am so disappointed that it is dead. I really don't want to invest in another printer since I may not get much use out of it due to my cancer diagnosis.

I saw a video on YouTube where a guy fixed his . I am going to open mine up and give it a try.

Well, the fix I saw on YouTube was not what was wrong with my machine. And then opening up the machine caused some connections to come apart. It is now truly dead.

Bummer. Was the fix you tried the one where the plastic part that moves the print head up and down had a crack? I was going to get some long screwdrivers to try to take mine apart and see if that's the problem with mine.

gale w that was the one I tried. That part did not appear to be cracked. Opening the case caused some of the computer type connections to come apart and dh (who works with these connections all the time) could not put them together again. He was amazed at how fragile the connections were.
