My Mom asked for a new set of oven mitts for Christmas, and I am having a heckuva time finding anything suitable. My mitts are from Pampered Chef, and I used to sing their praises all the live long day, but lately I have been feeling the heat through them, so those are out . I looked at home goods yesterday, and all of the new mitts were super tiny, which means my dad would not be able to use them. I think I have found a set on Amazon I will order, but it got me thinking… Do any of you have oven mitts that you swear by?

I have some IKEA ones that I love but they are getting a little tired looking. I recently bought some mitts from the Magnolia line but I returned them. Loved the little house pattern, but they weren’t well designed to actually protect your arms so I returned them.

I don’t know what to tell you about oven mitts, but I was thinking I should upgrade my regular potholders after noticing how scorched and icky they’re getting. When I was at Target I thought I’d swing through the kitchen section and look at them. HOLY CRAP are pot holders expensive! What the heck? Seriously, $6-8 for ONE, and not even anything awesomely special just a plain old pot holder. Needless to say, I didn’t upgrade that day. That’s just nuts! I’m thinking the cheap ones they sell at the Dollar Tree might just be good enough. Heck, I can sew two of them together and still be money ahead!

I have silicon overlay super padded mitts from BB&B. My dh can also wear them. I am able to take out a dutch oven that has been in a 425° oven for hours and feel no warmth.
I just hand wash them when needed (outside only). Have had them almost a year and still going strong.

I had some All-Clad ones that came with a set of pans. I really liked them and were the best I had ever had for about 3-4 years. Then it seemed that after they were washed more often that they were losing some of their heat blocking abilities. I have some of the little silicone ones (which are little finger grippers and don't protect your hand) and I really like them, especially for how easily they can be washed.

I have some lined silicone ones which are great. Not sure what brand they are but they're similar to the ones @calimom2 linked.

My daughter gave me a really cute set for my birthday. It has one of those 1950 housewives on it with the saying "Dropping a new recipe of your ass"
I thought it was hysterical. I'm not sure where she got it...so I am of no help here on this thread...sorry

I have had a hard time finding nice potholders. Not expensive, because they get trashed, but something that isn't too thick. Oven mitts we have are too thick too. I haven't bought any in so long, I always used the ones my grandmother made a long time ago.
We may try some silicon ones. We got some from Dollar Tree to try before we decided if we like that kind.

So I know they are as seen on TV and totally ugly. But I swear by my Ove Gloves! I actually am going to go by this two pack right now, we just moved and my current set is almost 10 years old and I want a new clean set! I bake a ton and cook a good amount in general and I swear by them! I bought a set for our family's house up in the mountains because I hated the "nice, expensive" ones they had because they didn't work! But as a word of caution. Just like any hot mits - they don't work when wet!

Yes,the silicone ones. Not the giant mitts. Those are to stiff and bulky. I like the ones that look like crab claws and the smaller pincher ones.

I have some that I paid a lot of money for and you can totally feel heat through them. They are Oxo silicone ones I think. They are dreadful!

One year I was given a pair of Ove Gloves sort of as a gag gift, but I really like them.

I finally replaced my shabby Kitchen Aid silicone mitts with some new one I picked up at Aldi the other day. They are quilted, but with a silicone pad. I also got some matching pot holders. I cant say how they work yet, but they look like they'll do a good job.

I'll reiterate the ove glove. Before I found them years ago, I tried many types, including the ones then recommended by Alton Brown that were essentially wielder's gloves. For ease of use, ability to be cleaned, and dexterity, nothing beat the Ove Glove for me. I know some people use hot pads and professionals seem to favor towels but those are just accidents waiting to happen for me: either they're gonna get gunk on them or I am.

My favorite are from Williams Sonoma. They're super thick.
