The students have a half day on Tuesday; teachers go all day.
Teachers come back on Jan. 3rd and students on the 4th.
I would prefer a little more time before Christmas, because that's when I'm busiest and have the most to do. Doesn't always work out that way. I especially like when we have two full weeks - with three weekends. Getting out in the middle of the week makes that impossible.

Last day is Friday the 22nd and they go back January 2nd. Very short break. Most of the schools around us had their last day the 15th and go back the 2nd.

When does your school district start Christmas holidays this year? Our kids are in classes until Friday, the 22nd, which seems really late to me! We don’t have to go back until the second week in January, though, so that part is nice! In class on Friday 22nd. Back on the 8th. It was the same last year. We always have 2 weeks off. It's hard for senior high students to come back on the 8th a d have finals so fast though. |

Got out last Friday, go back the 2nd.
I'm SO glad we aren't in until the 22nd like so many other districts. As someone who has traveled for the last 10 years to my Christmas destination, that would give me absolutely no time to get there if there are travel delays. And there have been delays for the past 10 years…

The 22nd here too. Better than last year when the last day was the 23rd… Same with us... and back Jan 8th. If I'm reelected to the school board I'm going to try to get a motion passed that we can't end any later than December 22nd. It's not fair to teachers who travel to visit family. It used to be that these dates were set by the province; now each district decides. Many surrounding districts ended on Friday, December 16th (there seems to be something in the contract that results in us always ending on a Friday). They either adjusted their Spring Break or they altered their school day/calendar somehow to get the instructional hours in. Mind you, I imagine they also went back earlier... but they couldn't have gone back on a Monday, because Christmas & New Year's fell on a weekend, so they would've had to have given people days in lieu for the stats. Anyway... I'm opposed to going later than December 22nd. |

The school system here breaks on Thursday and returns January 2. They missed a couple of days due to power outages from a tornado in October so that may be the reason. Usually the holiday break is longer.

Dec. 21 and 22; public charter and public elementary school. Back to school January 2 and 3.
We have very short breaks throughout the school year. We start last week of August and generally end the week after Memorial Day.

We go through Thursday, so we're off 12/22-1/8 and go back 1/9. I'm not looking forward to such a long time off, personally, and I'd rather have had it shifted a little more. One of the neighboring districts is off 12/20-1/5 or something, and I'd much prefer that schedule. Oh, well, when I'm queen they'll do it right...

Our district goes until Thursday with students, and Friday we have a teacher work day. We're all questioning why we're in school this week - most other districts in the area are out. The kids were INSANE today. Just hanging on ...

Half day December 14th. Back on January 7th. The international schools give long breaks since people usually travel farther. In Dubai, the week is Sunday - Thursday

Bavarian schools get out on Dec 22nd at about midday and will be back on Jan 8th. Even the International Schools here aren't finishing until the 22nd this year, which makes it hard for families who want to head home for the break, most especially the Australians and New Zealanders, who will struggle to get home before Dec 25th.
My Ds and DiL teach in Australia. In their state, school finishes Thursday or Friday (21st/22nd). As it is the start of their summer vacation, they don't go back until early February - not sure of exact date.

Our last day is Thursday, Dec. 21 and we go back on Jan. 3. This is on of our shortest breaks ever, next year we go back to having a full 2 weeks + 2days.

We are done in about 2 hours! My heart goes out to everyone who has school till Thursday or Friday. Here, teachers go back on the 2nd and kids return the 4th.

We have a half day tomorrow 12/20 and they go back 01/04. I don't like this half week to half week nonsense. The older two will probably miss the 4th and 5th to go visit cousins out of state to go skiing. I think maybe half the kids are around at school this week. The school, public, doesn't seem to care. They don't get funding based on attendance, so it's really no skin off their nose. But I feel like it means the kids end up missing a week of academic instruction (at this time of year I don't really mind since they are loving all the holiday activities) because there are so many kids gone that the teachers don't want to do anything too important on those days. Next year our kids will miss a couple days - not sure of the calendar yet, but we will be in Cabo for sure Dec 16 - jan 2 - possibly longer. So we're fine being here and not doing much this year.
