I see that Silhouette America has a 30% discount on software (CHRISTMAS for anyone wanting to upgrade). I've been using the Designer Edition since it came out, but with the discount, I'm wondering if maybe it is time to upgrade to the Business Edition. Are the differences worth upgrading?

There's also a comparison chart that tells you the features. Opening other files is great, for example EPS files mean often you don't need to trace images they already come in separate pieces. I've used this a few times with files from the Hungry JPEG where you get PNG as well as EPS files. Saving to other files is great too. JPG is useful because you could design your own background patterns and save as a JPG, which is handy if you then need to crop them smaller for projects, without it making all manner of strange cuts or not cropping how you expect.

I upgraded from Designer to Business in June for under $20. I am so glad I did. The ability to open many other types of file formats, save in other formats, and some of the warp features is great. I have even run two machines simultaneously for a couple of large projects. I didn't NEED it, but I really like it.

Check at Swing Design first. Even at 30% off, Swing Design might still be cheaper than Silhouette. You can also get a 10% off code for Swing Design.

I got it for the ability to export svg, so that I can create files in Silhouette, but export them as svg to also cut on my Explore Air 2 (hopefully....I have not yet tried it). I find it easy to design my own cutting files in Silhouette, but I really detest the Cricut Design Studio software, which can do far less.
