I received a plate of cookies from my boss' wife and I love the little gingerbread men sprinkles on the gingerbread man shaped sugar cookie. But I think my photo of it looks boring. I have an iPhone 7plus. (No other camera). How can I take a cute photo that will show off the sprinkles? Thanks.

I can't speak to camera settings but I can speak to aesthetics.
If you are in the position to put it on a pretty plate, I'd start there. If you are at work or otherwise unable, maybe grab a sheet of paper to make a quick doodled gingerbread house, or nicely lettered holiday sentiment.

I just want a cookie now. That is all. 😊
Maybe a doiley?

Maybe put a few Christmas ornaments/decorations in the background of the photo - they'll be out of focus but it will look pretty.

Great ideas. Keep them coming. I am at work, but will wait until I'm home and can take a nice picture before I eat it.

I have those same sprinkles!
I agree, stage the cookies in a more festive setting - can't wait to see the results, and more importantly, find out how they taste!!

You could try holding the cookie in front of the camera (maybe outside or in front of the christmas tree?) and using your portrait mode to blur the background. I am so excited to upgrade my phone hopefully soon and use that portrait setting with the blurred background! Otherwise, I would try it on a plain white surface (printer paper) well-lit, from directly above. You could put a few in a row like they're holding hands.

There needs to be more contrast between the cookies and the plate/background. Even putting them on an opened up colored napkin would help. Having props with varied textures helps add visual interest too, things like curling ribbon, shiny ornaments, or something fuzzy.

This is what I came up with. I had someone hold the plate on a piece of fabric in front of the tree. I forgot about the portrait setting on the phone. Too bad I ate him, I could have tried it again. (Him and his friends were delicious)

That's great! And you can still use the first shot you took as a detail shot. I love the sprinkles. That's really fun.
