My dog will probably pee all over the fancy carpet as soon as we walk in the door. awww......how pawsome that your adora-bull doggie is going with you !!! We LOVE staying in hotels with our doggies! My Dread gets to pretty much go everywhere with us since we moved to Germany. They love their dogs over here, and most hotels are dog friendly. He’s a little world traveler.

Too casual. A good chance the management would remove you.
You are going to need to pack a dress and heels.

Well crap...I just googled images, and I am so screwed. These are definitely not my people. 😝 Okay, suspense is killing me....WHAT HAPPENED, lol. That would be my nightmare, I love being cozy casual.

She is probably still in St. Moritz and the peas are not on her mind.
But, I want to know also.

Well, my first thought was jeans and a dressy shirt until I got to the black suit and bow tie part. I think what you're planning would be ok but without the jean jacket, although probably less formal than should be. Have you tried doing a google search to see if there are pics posted of past events so you can get an idea?

I wish more places accepted large breeds.

We still laugh about the time we were checking into a hotel in Cologne with our first Belgian Sheepdog. The German gentleman in front of us turned around to chat and asked about the dog. Before the conversation was over, he had pulled out his wallet and showed our dog a photo of his German Shepherd! Hoping you had a wonderful time in St. Moritz and looking forward to a trip report when you have the time!

My husband and I are going to St Moritz in Switzerland to ski over the Christmas holiday. Christmas Eve our hotel is doing a Christmas Eve gala. I was going to wear a silver sequin pencil skirt, a white blouse (untucked) with a denim jacket and boots. It’s a super cute outfit and comfortable. I emailed the hotel to get some information, and the dress code for the gala is black suit and black bow tie for men. No mention of dress code for women, but the black suit and bow tie gave me pause. First, do y’all think they meant tux for men? And do you think my outfit will be too casual? I’m thinking yes, but damn. I don’t want to pack a cocktail dress and wear stupid heels. Thoughts? Kymberlee How did it go? Do you have pictures to share? What did you end up wearing? We're you rubbing shoulders with royalty?

OMG! I meant to come back and update, but I totally forgot. The trip was fabulous, but oh lordy, did we get a glimpse into how the filthy rich live. Not just rich, but filthy, stinking rich. We went to lunch on the mountain one day, and I was just . The shopping was amazing, and we did a whole lot of people watching and window shopping. I did see a really cool ski helmet that was on sale and thought "OK, this might be fun to have." Ha! It was Swaravoski with mink ear flaps for the low, low price of $1200, and that was the sale price! Yowza! I watched moms and their kids dressed in full length furs dropping obnoxious amounts of money for Christmas presents for who knows. It was certainly a very surreal experience watching how the super rich drop money. Out hotel was really nice and for the most part, not stuffy although there were a few folks there that I wish I could have gotten their story. The "gala" didn't really turn out to be much of a gala in the sense that I thought it would be. It was just a nice reception with Santa Clause for the kids and champagne for the adults. Pretty much anything went as far as dress. There was a gal wearing exercise pants, a cashmere sweater and heels. Granted, it was all designer and the outfit was topped off with a diamond ring I could probably ice skate on but whatevs. Most people were in nice cocktail dresses so I was all good. I could have worn the outfit that I had planned and been fine, but I am glad I opted for the cocktail dress. Can we talk about the furs? I really think I am the only one that didn't have a fur coat. Seriously. The kids had furs, the men were wearing furs and the women??? Most were in full length and some were even skiing in shorter length furs. Most of the folks were really nice but we did run into a few that were snots. I'm not sure that we ran into any royalty, but there were many, many families from China, Russia, and the Middle East so I wouldn't doubt there were a few with ties to royal families. Dinners were mostly buffet style but oh so delish. We had lobster one night, and goose and duck on Christmas Eve. We had pasta mixed in a giant parmesan bowl with shaved truffles on top. Breakfast with fancy champagne and the most delicious cheeses and pastries every morning. The wine book was crazy! It was ginormous and most bottles were in the $100-500/bottle range with a few being less. I love French reds and found one on the menu for $26,000. Yep, that is thousand dollars. There were actually at least half a dozen that were over $20,000. What the hell does a $20,000 bottle of wine taste like??? I'm sure I will never know. All in all, it was a very awesome trip and I am glad my DH talked me into going. Now, would I do it again??? Not a chance in hell. It was crazy expensive and although I love staying in nice hotels, this one was just way over the top. We might go back this summer and take our mountain bikes, but summer is a lot more chill and a different clientele. Christmas Eve by the gorgeous tree in the lobby. My sweet lovey by the Christmas Tree and hijacking the Fat Man's sleigh. Yes, he did manage to pee on the carpet. Actually, he peed in the elevator. Poor old fella couldn't hold it one morning. The staff was supper chill about it and wouldn't let us clean it up. Outside our hotel. The views were amazing with the Alps surrounding the hotel. Picture postcard kind of stuff. On the slopes. It was bright and sunny the whole time we were there. It did snow the day we left, but I am happy the sun was shining as we were able to see the mountains. I managed to slide down the mountain on my ass the last day we skied as we got on a run that was way above my skill level. I just let it happen because the alternative was actually skiing down and just hell no. I wasn't going to get hurt sliding down on my rear. My pride was a lot more hurt than anything else.

Well wow! It sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for the update and the photos. As for $20-26,000 for a bottle of wine, I can not imagine spending that amount of money on something that will last just a few moments when you could do so much good with it elsewhere.

What a wonderful experience to have had. I'm interested in the furs. It's sounding like other countries don't have the fur aversion we see here in the US.
That hotel looks fabulous and very old. And probably splendidly ornate inside.

I've been watching for an update too, thanks for sharing! It looks like it was a fun experience to have had. That hotel is gorgeous! Furs give me the heebie jeebies, I couldn't wear one. I'd have had so much fun people watching in that kind of environment. I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a bottle of wine! I don't really like it though. Every kind I tried, I think is pretty gross, so it would be completely wasted on me (moscato is the only kind that I like ok). I'd much rather go shopping with the money people are spending on expensive wine. I seriously want to love on that dog of yours! He is so damn cute!!!

And probably splendidly ornate inside. No, I have noticed that Europeans don’t have the same aversion to fur that many Americans do. I have been looking for a vintage coat as I can’t bring myself to buy a new one. My girlfriends and I do tons of flea market and thrift shopping, and I just need to find one that I love. Thanks for the kind words everyone. It truly was an amazing trip. The beauty of Switzerland is awe inspiring. I have decided that I will have zero regrets when we move back stateside. We might be broke as hell when we get home, but I’m going to experience as much of Europe as we can squeeze into the few years we are here.

What a great experience. I would have totally people watched too. There have been a few TV programmes here about very rich people and their spending habits around Christmas, crazy amounts of money being spent. One family had their house manager ensure their London home was decked out for Christmas, amazing tree, huge flower arrangements in every room, gifts etc BUT it was not a given that they would be there, they might be stay longer in their NY home (they were Arabs). They just wanted it to be ready in case they decided to change their plans.
