It was a Nikkah and then the food! The food was amazing and there was so much of it. The sisters ate before the brothers because the women are very dominant in that family. It was an arranged introduction for the bride and groom but they dated a few times and decided it was right for them. They are both lawyers. It was really beautiful. The restaurant was so tastefully decorated and again there was that food. The night before we were to have a henna party but that didn't happen as there was another meal served and that went on forever. The food, though, was excellent. They are having another wedding in the summer back east and I am invited but I have nothing suitable to wear to it and I am going to be going to Europe about 2 weeks after the wedding and it's just too much travel. It will be difficult to get out of going but I will have to. I have a Thai sister who I can talk into going. That will be perfect as she missed this nikkah. (She was in Thailand).

Just an fyi Elennah - if you want to tag allipeas you need to put @ immediately before her name in the title, no space.

Sorry I missed your thread. I have been soooooooo busy with the school that I am not on Peas much.
The bride didn’t do any changes to her dress? Was this in the States? While I love having an event to wear one of my Takshitas, my God, these events do on forever! I would love to hear about the food.
I tell you what is fun are the “sbhors”. It is like a baby shower but done 7 days after the baby is born. The men do a separate meal on another day, but the women get this big party with music and dancers. And lots and lots of food. I guess it is the equivalent of a push present! Lol
I tell ya....Arabs are always up for a party!
I would love to see pictures!

The next one in August will be dress changes and the whole 9 yards. I was sitting beside the Imam's wife and she wears niqab and the second a man or boy came to the women's side she hid her face. She is so nice and so beautiful, but a bit on the scared side. The food: there were about 5 stew dishes. Stewed cod, stewed beef, stewed lamb, some kind of chicken, and the most amazing basmati rice. Oh it was first class all the way! This was a Pakistani wedding and it was just so beautiful. I have to go over to see the mother of the bride today. They wanted no gifts so I am giving them money and a one dollar coin. They told me it had to be 21, 31, 41, or 51. The grandmother who is my little old lady friend wanted me to give nothing. I got mad at her LOL. She is so sweet. I just love Umm____. I can't post pictures on the internet of the wedding. I can just post a picture of me and I am wearing hijab and that might offend some peas.

I am wearing hijab and that might offend some peas. Why? There are many people in here who don't care for Islam. I can post it, but I think it won't be well-liked.

If anyone is offended by your choice of faith or by what you choose to wear to a wedding that’s their problem. Peas have shared pics of guns and hunting kills and they definitely offend some people but that’s the beauty of the forum - if something offends you can skip it.

When you're in the reply box click on the 'insert image' icon then copy the image url into the box. Or click 'add attachment' next to the wheel/cog icon just above the box.

I find "add attachment" at the top of the reply screen to be the easiest way. However, often I have to resize the photo in order to post it. Save it to your computer and then see if you can post. If too big, edit it down. Alternative: Get a Flickr account (it is free) and upload there. Then share the link here.

Delta Dawn you look fantastic! I so appreciate you sharing your day with us. I love this kind of stuff. A wonderful celebration, fantastic people, lovely outfits, great food, imo life just can't get better. My mouth is watering reading about the stews. Stewed cod? I love cod and had no idea it could be stewed.

Thanks for sharing the photo. Quite honestly if you hadn't mentioned about the hijab it wouldn't have been a blip on my radar. You look lovely.

This was stewed. That is the only way I could describe it. Poached doesn't seem like it would look like this. It had some sort of sauce thing on it and it really did look good! I didn't have any but the others all enjoyed it. The chicken and lamb and beef were melt in your mouth delicious. They weren't the least bit spicy, but extremely flavourful and really good! The basmatti rice had tumeric in it so it was a golden yellow and it again was amazing. I keep saying the same thing over and over but it was so good. The bride and groom were surrounded by sheets in this private room and we were to go visit them. They looked so happy. The bride was all nerves but they seemed happy that the day had come. They had requested no personal photography but that went out the window as everyone has about 200 photos of the bride and everyone else there. It was just so much fun. I had several friends there, too, so that made it really nice. There was no alcohol served at the wedding as it is forbidden in Islam. There was no need for it. Everyone was having a great time as it was and having it would have just seemed intrusive (for lack of a better word). (I have no problem with alcohol myself. I drink sangria if I can get it. I like rosé and there are some reds that I enjoy, so please don't think I am contradicting myself). I wore the hijab for a bit of it but I hate anything on my head and just can't deal. I pinned it so that it would slide down my neck as a scarf and I could pull it up if we had to pray. We had two calls to prayer but didn't pray the second time as most of us had used the washroom and did not have our wudu. Wudu is a state of cleanliness where in you have washed yourself ritualistically and we didn't have it after we had all peed. It's just a thing in Islam. In Catholicism, you aren't supposed to take communion if you haven't gone to confession even though everyone does. Same sort of thing only with bathing.
