On an average day, how much time do you spend just kicking back and relaxing? I teach and my job is very hectic. I also teach Adult Ed 9 hours a week in the evenings. I usually leave the house by 6:45 and return around 8:30 or 9:00 and fall into bed. Weekends are spent catching up around the house and doing planning and paperwork for school. I miss my relaxing, do nothing time I have in the summer. I wish I could add two hours every day just for "me" time. How much free time do you carve out of a day?

Wow, it's a good thing you have summers! That schedule would kill me.
I have a long commute and stressful job. I get 1-2 hours down time per day, most days.

I'm so lazy. On a normal weekday I get up at 7:30am, take the kids to school then go to work and I get home at 6:30pm. Most nights after dinner and DS's bedtime at 8:30pm I will plonk down on the couch for the next 2 - 3 hours and watch TV or go on the computer. Some nights I have to prepare dinner for the following night.
On the weekends I could easily spend several hours on the computer. Like now! (It's currently 10am Saturday.)

It depends on the day. The days that I have off from work, I try to rest for a couple of hours...but I usually end up doing stuff around the house or running errands. The days that I work, I'm up at 5 to get the kids off to school and then work until 1-2pm, just in time to get them from school. Then it's dinner, cleanup, soccer (2-4 times per week), back home and then I usually sit for an hour...maybe two before crashing. I have arthritis so the days that I work, while it's only 5-6 hours, I'm on my feet all that time AND picking up babies, getting up and down off the floor, building things, etc. I'm exhausted by the time I'm done. And my joints typically hurt. So if I have the following day off, I try to take it easy some.

I work til 5, then cook dinner and clean up. By then it's maybe 8:00 -9:00 and I sit down for the first time. I usually go to bed around 11:00 so usually 2-3 hours. Same schedule on weekends except work, I'm doing things at home.

Depends. I leave the house for work at 7 AM and generally get home between 5 and 5:30. Most week nights I have about two hours between getting the dinner dishes done and going to bed. But Tuesday and Thursday I have to get the girls to dance, and I also try to work out a couple of nights, so ... not much? I know I should consider working out as "me" time, but I hate it, so it's hard to do that. "Me" time is spent in the couch. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) ETA: we're pretty protective of our free time on the weekends. Glad my kids don't play sports! I lose a lot of weekend time to lesson planning, meal planning/shopping/prep work, and household chores.

A lot, really.
On weekdays I give myself about 30 minutes of relaxing time in the morning where I just listen to the radio and play on the computer after I eat breakfast. Then I get about 45 minutes on my lunch at work where I am on the internet or reading or whatever, sometimes I nap! Once I get home I spend about 2 solid hours doing nothing, make myself a little dinner and watch some tv then go to bed. So I would say total that's about 4 1/2 hours of just total downtime each day. I love it.
Weekends are anyone's bet. I might be running around like a crazy person catching up on all the stuff I didn't do during the week or I might spend the whole weekend on the couch napping, watching shows on Netflix and crafting.

Lots...but when I work I work hard. It's not stressful work but fun but we do have to sell stuff to people. Some people are happy, some are pissed off, some are pissed off the stuff we sell isn't in their budget (no one said they had to shop with us...we aren't Target).

Ugh. Not much. I am up at 5 to get everything ready to go for the day. I get DD ready and I leave for work. I have a 45 minute commute in the morning so that is my relaxing time. I usually read a book or watch a show on my iPad so long as I don't have work to do. I get home from work at 6 and then it is pretty much dinner, cleaning, homework, bedtime until 9. I have to pack lunches and prep the next day after dd is in bed and then I usually make a tea and pass out by 10. I try to make time to play with Dd outside of homework and such but there is no "relaxing"in the evening. I work weekends as well but I usually find an hour to read between clients to refresh a bit. It doesn't go very far! I am exhausted (and freshly pregnant so doubly exhausted). I just keep telling myself that this won't be forever but damn, it feels like it never ends! I just want a day home with my family to do nothing ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

NOT MUCH!! My husband and I are caregivers for his elderly parents who have a number of issues and that has kept us very busy, but my husband broke his ankle and had surgery a few weeks ago so now he's very dependent as well. So the responsibility is all on me now. I joke that I'm running away once he's back on his feet!

On the average I get 30 minutes every night in the hot tub before I go to bed. That is total relaxation time. on the weekends I might do 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night.
My husband works monday through friday and I am home but do all the chores around the house. I do try to take an hour in the morning after he leaves to sit and drink coffee. maybe watch a tv show from the night before.
On the weekends we usually get up in the morning have breakfast and then hang out and watch some tv together. there are weekends we get up and run errands all day. and then there are weekends that we do nothing for the whole weekend. except eat and relax. For many years we didn't get weekends off together so now I make sure that I have everything done during the week and the house is ready for fun times on the weekends.
My daughter is now working Monday - Friday and she doesn't help all that much around the house any more so I am doing everything she used to do now.
I hope you do get some time to your self to relax. too much work and not enough me time is not good.

On an average weekday, I get 15 minutes for lunch, 45 minutes for dinner, and maybe 15 minutes here at Two Peas as my down time, me time. On the weekends, Saturday is all mine and most of Sunday.

Wow. I feel blessed. Quite a bit really now that i am semi- retired. But I don't have the energy i once had so i need more downtime- everything seems to take me longer. i remember those years of up @ 5, work,DH, DD, DD, DS, sports, house, Laundry, Church, volunteer work, entertaining, elderly parents, never enough money, dinner & falling into bed exhausted @ 11 after trying to fit in an hr of TV/crafting/reading or "me" time. Would I trade those times - no. But now I look back & wonder how we did it all. I feel for all of you & hope you do get some time to just relax. Please try not to strive for perfection- a little mess/ a little dirt won't matter in the grand scheme if things. Enjoy your today. Your season of rest will come & yes you will enjoy it!

Weekends are my down time. Although I tend to try and get a lot of stuff done, it's 'MY' stuff....gardening, flea markets, craft stuff. Actually sitting down and doing nothing?? Never happens except at Christmas, when the schools are closed so I have 5 weeks off. I manage quite a bit of nothing over the Christmas break, lol.

Judy you must have a lot of energy! I'm usually in bed by the time you're getting home.
I get quite a lot of 'me' time to relax or pursue hobbies. I get up around 4 a.m. every morning, even on weekends. That is my time to go on the computer, or catch up on a t.v. show, etc. I work 7-3 M-F and am home by 3:15. I might do a bit of tidying, make dinner, etc. but still have a few hours each evening. One weekend day is usually allocated for groceries, errands and laundry but I usually have one day that I can just do what I want.
My kids are teens now, so they take on some of the household chores, and my dh is great about doing things around the house, so that all helps free up my time as well.
I think I would get pretty irritable if I was on the go all the time and feel lucky that I have the free time that I do. The trade off is that I have a mundane, low paying job as opposed to a stimulating, well paying career. But it works for me.

Usually 2-3 hours on weekdays, with more on the weekend. During the week I get up at 5:45 to leave by 7. I get home between 6:30 and 7. Dinner on the table by 7:30. I'm typically done with cle\eanup by 8:30, and I go to bed between 10:30 and 11. I spend that extra time reading and watching Judge Judy (who lately has been replaced by Blossom). DH is a volunteer footbal coach on T/Th so those days I have more time because dinner is much less of a production. On weekends I try and get all of my errands/things around the house done by 2 so that I have the afternoons to kick back.

Not nearly as much as I'd like. I work full time and also tutor SAT Prep classes 6 hours a week. Then home where there's dinner to prepare and a few chores. I try to get in the bed early enough to read or watch some Netflix. That time alone is very important to recharge my batteries.

I am a stay at home mom to 2 special needs kids.
I am up at 5:00am, get myself ready by 6:00am.
I go to bed anywhere between 8:30-10:00pm.
I'd say I get...1-2 hours before pick up times, about 30 min after pick up, and 1-2 hours after dinner/kids bed time. Just depends on when I either crash on the couch or go up to bed.
So at most 4.5 hours. Least is 2.5 hours.
Weekends a lot more of course

I teach full time too, and I think limited relaxation time during the school year is so ingrained in me I don't know what to do with it when I have it. During the week I am pretty busy. Most evenings I am attending some sort of class, tutoring, running an after school club, or taking/editing photographs for donations to fund students who can't afford field trips. On the weekends I do housework, spend time with the family, and grade papers. I do relax for an hour at church each Sunday, and I do watch Outlander on Saturday nights. Sometimes I get pretty tired, but I am very happy with my life. I do take long summer vacations in a fairly rural place where the stress of daily living just flows out of me and right down the river. I have a great life!
