By novice, I mean 0 experience and 1 embossing folder.
I don't have an embossing plate for my Grand Calibur, yet. I have some questions so I get the right thing and best deal and I know the peas have my back!
1a. What is the function of the pink B embossing plate since it's not for use with embossing folders, right?
1b. Are there other ways to emboss with a machine besides embossing folders?
2a. Do I have to use the raspberry embossing plate?
2b. Does it work with embossing folders?
3. Do you have a generic plate or competitor plate that works fine with your machine?
Thank you in advanced, you gals all rule!

Did you not get instructions with it? Google grand calibur for all kinds of help. For emboss folders the sandwich is (from bottom up) A plate (gray), Emboss folder (any brand), rubber mat (tan), raspberry plate. Run it thru. The plates are all designed to fill the space between the rollers for a proper function of the machine. There are other ways to emboss. Fiskars and others have embossing plates, and you can emboss with some dies. The raspberry plate is designed to work with the Grand Calibur. The raspberry plate is what is used for most techniques. A necessary part of most processes. These machines, all of them are fairly rugged, but the instructions are best followed for optimum results. Before you start to experiment outside the instructions, you may want to keep in mind the cost of the machine, and any repairs could cost as much as new. Used properly for intended purposes you will love it. I had the original Wizard and smashed a lot of Peeps and bottle caps. We were kinda crazy then.

I got it second hand so I have a small manual, I'm not sure if it's the full manual or just a quick reference manual but either way it has very limited information on what can actually be done with the standard embossing plate. I got my plates jammed when I tried to use a folder with them accordingly! The tricky thing about searching for specific answers through google/bing/whatever is unless you know the right questions, you get back very generic answers. Like when I try to search for info on the light pink plate that comes with the Grand Calibur "embossing light pink plate" or similar, I still get the Raspberry plate back in the search results and/or I get results from Amazon/Ebay/etc I've used it for standard die cutting and so far, I am loving it. I just wish I could find good information on the embossing side without sitting though 10 minute tutorial videos! Thank you for your response Don P.S. What plates do you use for smashing bottle caps!?

I use the Raspberry plate for Sizzix, Cuttlebug and Tim Holtz embossing folders. My husband found this for $10 at Value Village. I don't use my dies anymore because of my Cricut but I still emboss. My big red Sizzix has a huge crack in it so this has been working for me so far.

I'd suggest giving the company a call to ask for the product instruction manual. I did a quick check of the Spellbinders website and found the below telephone number. Hope it helps.
