And I don't like an entire collection of random themes. Donuts + flamingos+ tacos + arrows + gold foil is not useable to me. Generic paper + complimentary alphas + specific themed embellishments that I pick are useful to me. This is definitely me. I mostly use themed supplies for Christmas and travel pages. I like subtly themed papers like a tone on tone print of a Christmas tree and find it hard to go past a map print but will often use neutral patterns like woodgrain, polka dots, or lightly distressed solids. I know I've said it before but I have no problem with the random flamingo/tiger/taco as long as it's not on everything.

I like themed and generic. I think, I like my themes in smaller doses though. I don't want the theme on everything. The exception is love (I think it's versatile enough to use for all my family, because I love them all), fall (I seriously need every fall colored thing), and Christmas.
I know I'm not the "norm", but those summer themes are too beachy/oceany for our lifestyle. Those school lines don't really go with homeschooling.

For me, it depends on the theme. I am not happy with all the various icons that seem to come in every AC collection. I just end up with too much stuff that don't fit with my style. I refuse to go out of my way to find a way to include something just to use it up. I would rather give it away, but when there's so much in one collection that's like that, there's no sense in even buying it. I buy very little from AC because of this.
That being said, I love a lot of the Christmas, travel & beach themes. However, even some of these include too many items that are too specific (Eiffel towers, Route 66, Empire States Building, etc) or too many of a particular item like flamingos, airplanes & such. I also end up with too many phrases that just don't fit our personalities.
I scrap a lot of cat photos, but I rarely use cat themed collections because they tend to be very cutesy. I do like to use cat-shaped wood veneer, but have trouble using the fish bone, yarn & mouse icons that are usually included. I would prefer just a variety of cat shapes in various poses (sitting, laying, playing) and a few paw prints.
I think it's difficult to please everyone with themes because we all have different things that appeal to us or that we find useful. With papers, the B-sides can be made in a neutral pattern, but you can't create an embellishment with a themed side and a neutral side (unless it's something like a tag).
I do think that Kaisercraft does an amazing job with their die-cut packs. I find that I get the most use out of them than the other brands.
