Has anyone used these? I am tempted to order some from Amazon, but I thought I would ask the all-knowing peas who may have used them for a review. I have a pretty large set of Prismacolor pencils, and while I like the way they color, and I like being able to blend them, I can't stand how they are so hard to sharpen. I have one pencil that I literally sharpened away half the darn pencil because it kept breaking. Is there any way to avoid this?? It's really irritating, especially since those things aren't cheap.

Unfortunately, any pencil that has been dropped the lead can be broken more often then not. That is one of the reasons for difficulty sharpening them.

No advice about the Color Escapes, but your Prisma that wouldn’t sharpen is due to the lead being shattered inside the barrel. That pencil must have been dropped on a hard surface at some point causing the lead inside to break. Prismacolors have a high pigment to binder ratio which makes the leads very fragile. You have to be very careful with them and not knock them around a lot. There are some supposed fixes that you can attempt to remedy it if you suspect one of your Prismas has broken lead that you can Google, but I haven’t personally ever tried them.
Good luck and I hope someone has a real life review for you on the other brand.

You can try baking the Prismacolors to fix the cores. I haven't done it with my own busted stash but I know people who've had success. Supposedly you can also sit them outside on a hot sunny day. I don't have those Crayola pencils but I do have a recommendation. These are great pencils. I bought them as kind of an impulse buy at an art supply store and they've become my favorites.

I have no opinion or information to add other then I love the solid pencils too, but I am constantly amazed at the stuff I learn here. I never knew that was why some pencil leads always break or that it could be fixed.

I have one pencil that I literally sharpened away half the darn pencil because it kept breaking. Is there any way to avoid this?? I don't know about the Color Escapes but I do have advice on sharpening your Prismacolors (a) Make sure you are using a Primacolor sharpener - I used a 40% off coupon to get one at Hobby Lobby - it works best on these pencils (b) When you sharpen, hold the sharpener upside down with the point of the pencil going up - then turn the sharpener, not the pencil That seems to work best for me and I rarely have it break off.
