Now what? I have plugged my new Cameo into the computer and into the outlet and turned it on. Have not even put in the blade. (Just removed the green tape from the carriage).
I expected an automatic pop up to let me add the new device driver to my computer. But nothing.
No guide in the box, even a set up guide.
When I searched Google for a manual, the first thing it prompted me to do was download device driver from the internet. But I don't want to do that in case it interferes with the device itself.
HELP!!!!

Grammadee, this official Silhouette site will help you. The above web page does say, "For new device setup, please click here." Also, if you click on Legacy Versions, it has the older software versions that you can download.

That was pretty much my experience with the Cricut Explore Air 2, also!
I watched a lot of youtube videos to really figure things out.

If it's any consolation, it sets up fairly easily and I've found the software to be somewhat intuitive. Good luck learning! I hope you love it!

Geeze, it's been so long since I started out with the Silhouette software in general... but don't you just download the software and when you turn on the machine it will automatically find your Cameo?

Thanks, bluecrafterperson for the link and to scrapincin for the PM assistance. I now have the software downloaded and installed. Fooled around with the screen a bit to figure out how to grab included images, basic shapes and also using text. Still don't know how to plan a shadow cut, but can probably figure that out, especially with the studio manual. Don't know how to add to my digital stash of cut files, but now I have registered with them, I am sure I will be getting a bazillion emails. Now trying to get it to actually cut. The autoblade is going through the motions, just not touching the paper. (the pop down menu for cutting says it should be set on 3 for regular cs). I think I need to call Silhouette help line to get them to walk me through it, but am also waiting for a phone call about our family vacation, so don't want to use the line until I have that dealt with.

grammadee, make sure the blade is inserted all the way into the holder. It can sometimes look like it's sitting in properly, but it may be just a fraction off. I had this issue the first time I used mine as well.

Glad you have scrapincin as a reference. When I first upgraded to the cameo 3 I found the blade was not cutting, but it was because I was not clicking it in right in the housing.

Yeah, streetscrapper and LisaDV , I suspect this may be the case as well. Had the same thing happen with my Cricut at first. I am afraid to push anything too hard or force something where it is not supposed to go. I guess a photo of an installed blade in a Cameo 3 would be helpful. Still haven't heard from the travel planning people, so I have not yet contacted Silhouette. ETA: Thanks, scrapincin for the on line site with the pic of the blade in place. I DID need to seat it in there more securely. Cut my first circle. Onward and upward!

I have the original Cameo so I figure I am not a lot of help with the Cameo 3.
This YouTube video starting at about 2:10 and after shows a section on the blades. The video explains and shows clearly about if the blade is inserted correctly.
--- After posting this, I saw where the blade problem was already solved. ---

Well, I played with my Silhouette a bit today. Typed out a title. Welded the letters. Found out how to design an "offset" or background for it. Cut them. Note to self: start with straight lines, block letters. Leave the script fonts and flourishes until I know the machine better and what cs goes with what selection for weight. Maybe figure out how to use sticky back cs for those? The offset cut perfectly from Recollections cs with a 3 setting on my blade. The cs I chose for the title itself was heavier and didn't cut through all places even with the 4 setting. I switched cardstock and recut the title. The larger part cut well enough, but the smaller letters didn't come off the cutting mat very smoothly. I think I can still use it, but I am done for the day. I essentially wanted this machine to cut titles, but when I get time, I also want to play with some of the images. When I read scrapnnana's saga about losing or mixing up thousands of cut files, I thought I am really glad I have only the 100 cut files that came with the machine. Of course I know I will add to these and will need to learn how to organize what I add. HER story sounds more like looking for something physical in my "library" of papers and embellishments and media stuffed into this tiny room...

grammadee looks like you're well underway. It takes a bit of trial and error at the beginning to work out the best settings for cardstock - don't know about the auto blade but I often adjust the ratchet blade from the recommended settings e.g. I can cut AC white textured cardstock on 3 but need a 4 for some colours. My PTI cardstock I usually do on 6 to get a nice clean cut as it's 110lb weight. I keep a list of settings for various paper types. Have fun with your machine

grammadee So glad you are up and running and cutting. I have the original Cameo and absolutely love it. My advice is don’t get frustrated and don’t be afraid to “waste” cardstock. Also, each time you cut different card stocks, write down your settings when you finally get them to work. I’ve found, colors of cardstock from the same company cut differently.

Stampin' Up cuts great; but Night of Navy needs 2 passes at blade 3 pressure 30, while Whisper White/Cherry Cobbler will cut on blade 3 pressure 30 with 1 pass. This is why I fancy getting a Cameo 3 later this year; so I can automatically change blade depth because it's a major exercise for me to change it with a ratchet blade I probably ought to put in a new blade too; mine is a couple of years old now...

Thanks, Ladies. My new cut files and fonts are now available to me.
Have a title and a layered image laid out on my design space to attempt to cut tomorrow. Hope to cut them tomorrow.

Thracian, the original Cameo only has one blade. The YouTube video I posted above won't do you any good for the original Cameo. I went to Youtube and found this video for the blade on the original Cameo.

Congrats on getting your machine up and running for you! I bought my first electronic cutter for cutting titles only. Then I realized all the possibilities..... My Silhouette library woes seem to be resolved now, except for duplicate personal files. I can resolve that one on my own, thankfully. Like you, I have a ton of papers, embellishments, and other media stuffed into my craft room. My Silhouette library is the one area of complete organization in my life, which is why I got so upset when it seemed to be in chaos after the update. I am now loving my machine again, and the software update is growing on me. I hope you love your Cameo as much as I love mine!

I love my Silhouette and I love the software. You will be amazed at what the software can do. I think most people who use it really don't use a fourth of what the software can all do. Here is a link to a beginners Facebook group. You can usually get your questions answered pretty fast in them. There are many more groups out there... www.facebook.com/groups/301898043638915/
