We are throwing a big party next week and we are considering using table names instead of table numbers. We have 22 tables. Oy. Many people!
The party theme can be summed up as polka dots, bright colours, patterns.
Any ideas on table names? I suggested colour names but dh didn’t love that idea.
Paige.

My daughters wedding was beach themed and we named tables after nearby beach towns.
Think of something your decor goes with. Racetracks? Sherbet flavors? Old songs? Then name them related to that.

We went to a Disney themed wedding (they got engaged at WDW with the ring in a glass slipper, etc.). The *tickets* to our tables were a fastpass to a ride. It was lots of fun.

is the party for a particular 'occasion' that could suggest a theme for the names?
or... names of towns in your area? streets in your town? pick a word and then use synonyms for it? (i.e.: celebrate, happy, party, fiesta, ball, extravaganza, etc.)

What kind of party. I imagine if a birthday or anniversary you could name the tables after movies or songs or celebrities from the Target year? Polka dots. Maybe name each table after a round object?

Chinese New Year Theme--Name the tables the signs of the Chinese Zodiac and have the people sit at the table with their sign. Mixes up your group in a unique way. In your case, you'd need 2 tables per sign since you have 22 tables.

Honestly, if I was attending a party with that many tables, I'd really prefer numbers arranged in a somewhat logical sequence - or at least numbers in addition to a cute name.

Love the idea, but I agree with previous posters who would want more direction with that many tables.

Guessing its a bnai mitzvah. What about hebrew names for the colors? Or names of songs. Or anything the child likes

My cousin's wedding tables had names of each of the vacation destinations that she and her husband had visited. They travelled a lot.
Another party I went to had table names of famous ships. I sat at HMS Formidable, along with one of the most feared managers! I remember the Invincible and the Oceanic as well.
Depending on what your interests are, there's masses of scope: lakes, Roman or Greek gods, trees, flowers, capital cities, ports, countries, animals, composers, authors, music artists... I could go on...!

I like the ice cream flavor idea. Also, what about colors in a Crayola crayon box.

I did cake/cupcakes for a wedding once that had a Lord of the Rings theme. The topper cake had the white tree from Gondor piped on the front, and their cake topper was an arch with the Elven necklace hanging from it.
All of their tables were names of places - The Shire, Gondor, Rohan - all in the Lord of the Rings font. It was really well done!
My favourite part was the sign hanging on the reception hall doors as you came in from the outside ceremony "no admittance except on party business" - loved it!

Personally, I prefer the usual chronological numerical order. Look at the seating chart, find your table number, easily find your table.
Cutesy idea are just that, cute. But it's usually leads to confusion and guests wandering and looking. This idea, causes delays in guests finding and taking their seats. I know this from experience. I was at Wedding several months ago, and it was mass confusion and wandering.

The party theme can be summed up as polka dots, bright colours, patterns. Herringbone, paisley, polka dots, argyle, gingham, tartan, brocade, harlequin, damask, pinstripe, toile... it might be fun to just have the pattern on card stock in the table sign holder and find your pattern. You can use colors too, since I don't know if people would recognize 22 pattern types. So red paisley, pink paisley...

If you must name them, consider also giving a number. As a guest it is normally easier to find a numbered table than a named one. If I am standing by table 3 I know table 22 is going to be on the far side of the room from me. Your guests with mobility issues will be especially appreciative of not making them walk from table to table to find the one they belong at.

The only thing that comes to mind right now, when I think of a generic bright colors and polka dots/shapes theme is candy. Skittles, Starburst, Mike & Ike, SweeTarts, or maybe names from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If DH suggested table names without an idea, and then shot down my idea....there wouldn't be table names. DH knows his $.02 is always more than welcome in party planning; just come with cash in hand. I don't need one more thing to think about. Good luck with your event.

For my sons Bar Mitzvah it was surf/beach themed. We names our tables after popular surf spots.

Personally - I love the idea of table names. As far as "wandreing" to find your table, I think that's fine, gives folks a chance to mingle. As for the actual table names, I'm not very creative but there are some fun ideas posted! Have fun at your party!

This is a good idea as we’re doing ice cream sandwich (with different coloured cookies and ice cream) on the dessert table.

Honestly, if I was attending a party with that many tables, I'd really prefer numbers arranged in a somewhat logical sequence - or at least numbers in addition to a cute name. Actually, there is an adult sign board and a kids sign board so there won’t be 22 tables on one board. And they’ll be arranged like a map. There are 13 adult tables and 9 kids tables

We did this for my son’s Bar Mitzvah, we used names of people and places that were a part of life. We also told the story of the name on the table tent. So for example, one table was my son’s first name, and the story behind why we chose the name (it was after my husband’s grandfather.) Another table was named for where he was born. It was fun to watch people walk around to read all the stories after dinner was finished. We did have a map at so people could find the tables at the entry.

There is a cocktail party in the reception room before dinner so they’ll have ample time to move around. They won’t be going right to their seats but they can find them to put their bags down
