Looking for opinions on WW's new Freestyle program.
As I approach a weight I'm almost comfortable with, I am thinking of transferring over to weight watchers. I'm on a super restricted diet right now, and although I still have about 20 pounds still to lose, I'm thinking I can transition to a diet that allows me to have a carb or a dairy here and there, while eating healthy foods otherwise, and teaching me food control.
I see they have a new program now - Freestyle.
For those of you who are on this new WW program, do you like it? Are the points they assign very different from points that used to be assigned to foods? The last time I tried WW was almost 10 years ago, so I'm wondering how do-able this is now. I would not be doing the meetings, as my city has only one evening meeting per week, and it's an evening I can't go. I would just do online.
Thanks.

It is different than 10 years ago. There are over 200 foods that are zero points. Almost all vegetables and fruits are free. Beans, corn and peas were just added as free foods. White meat chicken and turkey breast are now free as is seafood, white fish, salmon, tuna. I like it much better than the last program. Not as much to think about. I do best with high protein, low carb and lots of fruit and veggies. But I need to be able to eat some carbs and cheese without it destroying my weight loss. I feel this program accomplishes that better. I did horrbole on the last one and gained back almost half of what I lost. With Freestyle I actually lost weight through the holidays. That’s a first for me.

I can't get a whole lot of information without actually signing up, and I wanted to find out everything I could first to make sure it'll be what I want.

They also have a great chat feature in the app or online for one on one coaching. Helps for those that can’t attend meetings.

I'm liking it so far (3 weeks). Like PolarGreen said, you don't have to think about it too much. Fortunately, I really love all the zero point foods and eat (with moderation) enough to feel full. Because I'm eating so many "free" foods, I can add a small carb or cheese to a meal. They hit you hard on sweets...but that makes sense. My weight loss so far has been modest, but steady.

I’ll echo what Polar Green said. All fruit and vegetables are zero points. All seafood/fish, skinless chicken and turkey breast are zero points. My leader also said that 99%fat feee ground chicken and turkey breast are zero points. I made turkey chili which was almost point free (it had canned tomato sauce in it which does have a point per 1/4 cup. I have trouble using all of my points some days as I’m used to eating low fat and low carb. I’ve been doing the new plan for about 10days now and find it really simple to follow. I lost 2.6 pounds my first week after a big loss (post holiday/bad food binge) the week before I signed up. I lost about 50 pounds on my own last year and when my employer offered WW as a wellness benefit this year I figured I’d give it a try.

I just joined last night. I lost about 50 lb. about three years ago and kept it off until last year dealing with elderly parent issues and it piled back on. I have some unique health issues and the last diet was a bit hard on my body. I opted to try this because I know it's going to take time to get to the weight I want and if I have to do protein drinks and rabbit food that long I might kill someone.
I even had a cookie for breakfast this morning! Hubby made cookies and it was wonderful to know I could eat one and it's OK.

The Freestyle system basically encourages you to eat low fat/low sugar/and low processed grains. The foods that are higher in points contain those things, and low fat, whole foods are low or no points.
So, basically, all your points will be fats/sugars/processed grains/potatoes. You get to decide how to balance those out. For me, I am not a sugar craver, but I love bread/pasta and cheese, so my points go towards those foods. My friend uses hers to include some sweeter things.

This all sounds good. I spent most of 2016 on a ketogenic diet. Zero grains, zero fruit, zero sugar, zero dairy. I lost a bunch. Then in 2017, I gained, lost, gained, lost. I have come to realize that the keto diet, for ME personally, is not maintainable. I need a piece of fresh bread once in awhile.
I am going to stick with my keto (IP) diet for the rest of this week, then I think I will transition over to weight watchers.
Thanks!
