Ooh he's British, possible Yorkshire accent there - Ha, went ferreting around and he lives in Leeds, West Yorkshire, not a million miles from me. Nice bloke, I hadn't seen him before so thanks for the new inspiration On a different note - is that a new avatar? I love it I can tell it's Yorkish from comparing it to the downstairs accents in Downton I would move to the UK in 2 seconds if my mom was not still close by and aging. I love it. I love ALL the UK accents - each unique but so lovely. My favs are the sing-song-y, lilty (at least to my ear) Cornish or Welsh.

There are a lot of people commenting here that they’re youtubers that I had no idea about! What if we started a share your channel thread for peas to post their channels. There is so much good stuff out there and I’m always looking for new content creators. It’s just hard to get the word out sometimes!

Yes, Welsh is lovely, and some Scots accents, and Northumberland voices I could listen to all day. I don't have a true accent; I can sound a bit Yorkshire, a bit north Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and even Home Counties posh. I think I'm even getting a hint of Lanacashire I've lived here nearly 20 years. ellewood good idea, I'll go and start one!

I don’t have a YouTube channel really so this doesn’t effect me, but I am torn on the subject of paying to watch.
On the one hand I feel like I have survived almost fifty years without paying to watch someone scrap in their home. I am not going to start paying now. I don’t mind the ads because if I were watching tv I would have to deal with commercials, so it’s like the same thing. My husband was watching someone who is totally against YouTubers (?) getting paid by viewers through patreon or whatever. He said that if they want money for making videos from YouTube ,they should give their viewers money to watch. After all we didn’t ask them to make the videos. That is kind of extreme to me but I kind of get what he was saying.
On the other hand, I feel bad that artists aren’t getting paid for their work. I wouldn’t work for free so why should they. I am also totally for someone being able to make a buck if they can. More power to you. I am going to subscribe to everyone on the other thread so maybe that will help someone out.
if this all goes crazy and creators leave YouTube in droves something else will come along or maybe we will go back to magazines. That is where I used to get my inspiration from.

I appreciate those who make videos to share. I know some of them have done it out of the goodness of their hearts, and some get a small compensation, which I suspect is not enough to "pay" them to do it, but every little bit of income is still helpful for most people.
I think this new policy stinks.
I don't watch a lot of videos, to be honest. I only watch when I am exercising, which is not as often as it should be.
I love blogs that show pictures and articles that I can read. If they also have videos, that is a definite bonus. Some of the blogs seem to have advertisers. I don't know how it works, but perhaps that is still a way for those who do videos to keep providing content and getting some compensation? I assume that people can still post videos on YouTube, they just won't be able to get compensation if they don't meet a certain criteria?
I do not expect anyone to provide their talents for free. I used to design cutting files. When some of the cutting file designers started charging for cutting files instead of sharing them all for free as they had been doing, it was surprising how many people got upset and accused the designers of being selfish for expecting to be paid.
No one is entitled to the time and talents of someone else. A person who shares their time and talents with others does not always get paid adequately for it, but compensation helps them be willing to keep sharing. The change in policy could make some YouTubers decide that it just isn't worth the time it takes to continue to make their videos. That would be disappointing to all of us, but understandable, too.
I hope those who make videos will find another avenue that works for them. However, since I rarely watch videos now, and have no favorite YouTubers that keep me coming back, I would not be willing to pay to watch someone's videos. It is NOT that I expect their services for free. It's that I rarely watch videos, anyway. When I do, I can tolerate ads. The money doesn't come out of my pocket. If the YouTuber has projects that she makes and sells (such as kits and/or patterns), then I can choose to buy them. I might be willing to pay for a tutorial video, if the project is something I want to make. I would not be willing to subscribe to videos of projects I have not seen and may have no interest in.
I hope that my perspective might help some YouTubers figure out ways to still get compensated for their talents. I'm truly sorry about the YouTube changes.

I have become a YouTube junkie, especially with Scrapbook layout and shopping haul videos. I pretty much check them out daily...

I am at 910 subs as of tonight, but I have no where close to the required 4k viewing hours. Nor do I care.
I enjoy making videos. I enjoy sharing. I enjoy the community aspect of it. My channel was able to do ads and monetize, but I never remembered to do it. I love seeing the same people commenting and being able to chat in a way.

So I am just slightly on the other side of the equation. I have been regularly making videos for over 2 and a half years, and I have made exactly $104. Do not get me wrong, that was nice to get, but if you do the math with the amount of videos I made in that period, its about $2 a video.
The only reason I do it is that by monetizing the videos, I can schedule them, which makes my life so much easier. I am by no means a "super tuber" I really am just slightly over the line, but it is definitely not what I consider a source of income. I make videos because I like to natter on about scrapbooking, and I find it fun.

I am not monetized and I've been scheduling since I started videos about 7 months ago. I know in the past, you had to be, but not anymore.
